George A. Benton, Sr.

George Ansel Benton, Sr., 83, husband
of Connie Smith Benton, died Thursday, January 30, 2014, in Georgetown
Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Benton
was born July 14, 1930, in Kingstree, a son of the late James Arrowood
Benton and Bertha McKnight Benton. He was a graduate of Kingstree High
School and was a US Army veteran, having served in the Artillery in Germany.
“Mr. George” was retired from A & P Food Company after 50 years of
service and was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. In addition
to his parents, Mr. Benton was preceded in death by 3 brothers, James,
Pete, and Paul Benton.
Surviving,
in addition to his wife of 63 years, Connie Benton, of Kingstree, are:
his son, George A. “Boog” Benton, Jr. and his wife Carla, of Myrtle Beach;
and 2 grandchildren, Emily Benton, of Wilmington, NC and Hugh Benton, of
Myrtle Beach.
Funeral
services will be 2 PM Sunday, February 2, 2014, in the Williamsburg Funeral
Home Chapel, with burial in Kingstree Memorial Gardens. The family will
receive friends 6 to 8 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be
made to Kingstree First Baptist Church, 400 N. Academy Street, PO Box 608,
Kingstree, SC 29556.
