George Barr Hammet,
Jr., 83, died Sunday, November 10, 2013, in Williamsburg Regional Hospital
after an illness.

Mr. Hammet was
born August 19, 1930, in Kingstree, a son of the late George Barr Hammet,
Sr. and Gaynelle Gamble Hammet. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School
and was a former employee of Santee Electric Co-op. Mr. Hammet served 41
years in law enforcement, first with the Williamsburg Co. Sherriff’s Dept.
and retired from SLED with 23 years of service. He was a volunteer firefighter
with the Kingstree Fire Dept for 31 years and was one of the founding members
of Kingstree Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and being
with his family.
Surviving are:
his wife, Carroll Staggs Hammet, of Kingstree; daughters, Susan (Jerry)
Smith of Florence, Ginger (James) Odom of Pawley’s Island, Mary (Bruce)
Mallick of Columbia, and Novia (Russell) Cooper of Kingstree; brothers,
Jerry (Betsy) Hammet of Fripp Island, and Chalmers (Etta) Hammet of Kingstree;
sister, Patsy Shi of Cary, NC; grandchildren, Jer (Ashley) Smith, Megan
(Kyle) Senn, Josh (Rebecca) Odom, Lindsey Odom, Laura Mallick, Russ Cooper
and William Cooper; and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral services
will be 2 P.M. Tuesday, November 12, 2013, in the Kingstree Presbyterian
Church, with burial in Williamsburg Cemetery, directed by Williamsburg
Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral
services in the church fellowship hall.
