A graveside service will be held at 10 AM Saturday, June 11, 2016, in Williamsburg Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 11 AM in Kingstree United Methodist Church.
Visitation
Mr. Gordon’s family will receive family and friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall of the church and at other times at their home

William Meadors “Billy” Gordon, 89, husband of Betsy Drennan Gordon, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016, in McLeod Hospice House in Florence.
Mr. Gordon was born June 8, 1927, in Kingstree, SC, a son of the late Ruth Meadors Gordon and Alexander McKnight Gordon. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and Davidson College, and was a World War II US Navy veteran. Billy was a professional photographer and the owner of Gordon Studios in the 50s and 60s. He was an active member of Kingstree United Methodist Church, where he served in many capacities. He was a former board member of Williamsburg Land Company, a former Trustee of Epworth Childrens Home, Columbia College, and The Methodist Manor of the Pee Dee. Mr. Gordon was a former commissioner of The Williamsburg County Soil and Water Conservation Committee and for many years, was a member of the board of Williamsburg First National Bank. Mr. Gordon, a dedicated conservationist and agriculturist, farmed his family’s land for more than 50 years.
Mr. Gordon is survived by: his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth “Betsy” Drennan Gordon, of Kingstree; 2 sons, William Drennan (Kathy) Gordon, of Kingstree and John Alexander “Alex” (April) Gordon, of Myrtle Beach; a daughter, Elizabeth (Jay) Pope, of Hemingway; 8 grandchildren, Gordon Pope, Jake Pope, Emma Ryan Gordon, Sarah McClary, Nina Gordon, Liam Gordon, Austin Gordon, and Addison Gordon; a sister, Ruth G. (Richard) Steffen, of Kingsport, TN; brother-in-law, Richard (Sandra) Drennan, of Inman; a niece and nephews; and many special cousins. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Gene G. Carroll.

Heartfelt and sincere sympathy is shared with all of the family upon the death of Mr. Billy Gordon, a most positive influence in my life from the time I was placed on the Cradle Roll of Kingstree United Methodist Church. Mary Frances and I send our love to Betsy, William, Elizabeth, and Alex and their children. Thinking of you all during these difficult days.

A giant in life has fallen. Mr. Gordon’s service to his Lord and Savior– Jesus, his family, his country, his state and his community will be felt by many. His character always preceded him and he left giant footprints.

Most sincere sympatihies are extended to the Gordon family during this time. Mr. Billy always served as a guiding influence for so many and will be greatly missed.
Prayers for the trying times ahead. Billy will surely be missed by his family, church family and friends. He made a lasting impression of all those he met, even those whom he met 50 plus years ago and moved away…..We will all meet again one day. Sympathy to the family….

Betsy, William, Alex and Elizabeth, no words that anyone can say will really ease the sadness in your heart right now, but Don and I hope it will comfort you in some small way to know that we care and are praying for you. The world has lost a true southern gentleman; but what the world has lost, heaven has gained.

I am filled with wonderful childhood memories at this time.

Your family is in our thoughts and prayers – I only got to meet Billy once but he made a lasting impression. A fine man and great example for his grandchildren to follow. We are very glad Jake will soon be a part of our family, I know that he and his grandfather were close.

I just learned of Billy’s passing yesterday from Nancy Roe. Billy was perhaps my mother’s favorite cousin and we alway looked forward to seeing him at family event’s. We have many fond memories of Kingstree as children at the Aunt’s place or at the Gordon family farm.As you know Margaret and Chester both passed away several years ago and we somewhat lost contact. Donald and I are so sorry to hear of his passing. he was a wonderful gentle soul.

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Billy’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Mr. Billy was a wonderful man and I have many fond memories of spending time on the Gordon farm – especially at the pool – with y’all when we lived in Gourdin. Mr. Billy always had a smile and kind word for everyone. He will be greatly missed.
May this dear family find some measure of comfort in knowing that your beloved Mr. Gordon now rests, awaiting the call from Jesus to “come out” of the grave; out to life in a world where “the last enemy, death, is to be brought to nothing.” (John 5:28, 29; 11:11, 43; 1 Corinthians 15:26; Psalm 37:29) Until that time, however, our loving Creator knows life is and will be hard without your loved one, so he invites you to “throw all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7; Psalm 83:18) I hope you all take care and please accept my sincerest condolences.
My deepest condolences, albeit now on 11/28/20, to the Gordon family of Kingstree. My mother Betty Sue McDonald Gaddy MacDonald student taught at Kingstree High School in the 1950s after finishing UNC-Chapel Hill in 1954. She always loved Kingstree. She and I visited Miss Julia McGill many times in the 1960s. Miss Julia housed my mother when she student taught in Kingstree.
As I understand it my grandmother Ruby Fowler McDonald knew Billy Gordon’s father prior to marrying my grandfather B.D. McDonald in 1922. Tomorrow is the 41st anniversary of my grandfather’s death in Kershaw. My whole family loves Kingstree, now and forever. Susan McDonald Gaddy
