Funeral Services
Funeral services will be 12 noon Tuesday, December 27, 2016, in Kingstree Second Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation
Mrs. James’s family will receive friends from 11 to 12 Tuesday before the service at the church.
Vernell Burrows James, 78, wife of Harold M. James, Sr., passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at her residence.
Mrs. James was born August 15, 1938, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Robert A. Burrows and Marie Baylor Burrows. She attended Andrews High School and was a graduate of Kingstree High School. Over the years Mrs. Vernell worked at Milliken Textile, A& P, Piggly Wiggly and Kingstree Laundry. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. Mrs. Vernell was a member of Kingstree Second Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. James, in addition to her husband, Harold are: her sons, Monty James Jr.; Robert (Bonnie) James, both of Florence; and Steve (Tammy) James, of Greeleyville; 9 grandchildren, Zack, Ben, Cody, Josh, Kayla, Michael, Christopher, Dylan and Amy; 3 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Lee Whitcomb, of Linden, AL and Argie Hudson, of Florence; and a brother, Dargen Burrows, of Rembert, SC.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. James was preceded in death by her brothers, Virgil G. Burrows, Frank G. Burrows, Jack Burrows, and Gipson Burrows.

My sincere condolences to the family. Vernell was my friend in high school, always smiling, always happy. I have lost touch with so many. Our lives just took us in different directions, but the fond memories are still there. Praying for peace for the family.
My heart goes out to all of the family. She will truly be missed by many that knew her! She was amazing wife, mother and grandmother. Thank you for all your love and support as my mother in law many years ago. I am longer apart of the family. But you still made a point to give me hugs and your sweet smiles and kind love you alway gave me. I will miss you (mama) !! Rest in peace !
