Katelyn Marisa Powell, 20, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 15, 2021, in Florida.
Miss Katelyn was born on October 19, 2000, in Florence, the daughter of Justin Leland Daniel Powell and Erica Marlow Chandler. She was a graduate of Lake City High School and attended Kingstree Church of God. Katelyn was working in telecommunications. She was a loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, and friend, she will be greatly missed. Her journey on this earth has been completed and she is now in the hands of God.
Surviving Katelyn are: her parents, Justin (Gina) Powell, of Kingstree; and Erica (Rickie) Chandler, of Lake City; three siblings, Mack McKenzie, Hunter Chandler and Caroline Chandler; grandparents, Leland (Sandy) Powell, of Kingstree; Robert (Patty Taylor) Broughman, of Conway; and Wynn (Kristi) Marlow, of Santee; great grandparents, David (Laura) Taylor, of Johnsonville; Arthur “Pete” (Letha Mae) Marlowe, of Johnsonville; and Katherine Powell, of Kingstree; aunts, Kimberly, Abby, Kathryn, and Taylor Marlow; Leigh Ann Martin; and LeAnne Duckett; uncles, Taylor, Daniel and Walker Broughman; and several other aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved her dearly.

We’re so sorry to hear about Katelyn’s passing. We’ll always remember her sweet, shy smiles, her gentle ability to hold dragonflies on her hands, and as a child…her love of country cowboy boots. She will always be held in our hearts. 💕
Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. Although I didnt know Katelyn, I can tell from her pictures that she was full of life. That reminds me of a saying, “it’s not the years in your life that matters, but the life in your years”. My prayers will be for God’s peace that passes all understanding to be yours.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Losing a child myself, I know it breaks your heart in a thousand pieces. But take comfort in knowing God will be with us always even until the end. Praying for the family. Love you all.

We had the true pleasure to meet your dear Katelyn on Jan 1st this year .. while visiting our son Joe (they met & instantly became friends) He didn’t want her to be alone over the holiday weekend, so she spent as much time together with our family as possible .. we swam, took a road trip, a boat trip & went to a family BBQ .. we fell in love with your sweet girl – we endearingly referred to her as a sweet “Southern Belle” ..
