Mr. Benjamin Thaddeus “Thad” Barrineau, 73, husband of Diana Bellamy Barrineau, passed away Thursday evening, November 11, 2021 at MUSC Charleston.
Thad was born October 7, 1948, in Salters, SC, a son of the late Harley Marion Barrineau and Annie Lee Smith Barrineau. He was a 1969 graduate of Kingstree High School, was drafted by the US Army on June 16, 1969, and deployed to Vietnam following basic training. After his service in Vietnam, Thad attended Williamsburg Technical College and completed First Class Linemen’s School. Thad worked a total of 41 years as a lineman/electrician – beginning with Vietnam, Utilities Construction and Santee Electric Co-Op. He retired in 2010. In 2008, Thad graduated from the US Coast Guard Merchant Marine Officer’s School as a captain. Thad was a member of Union Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, and socializing with friends and family. He was a generous man who loved gardening and sharing his vegetables with friends. Thad loved spending time with and “napping” with his dog, but he also enjoyed traveling and experiencing new places and foods. He was a history buff who charted his ancestry and maintained several historical graveyards. Thad never met a stranger and was loved and admired by many friends and family. He enjoyed life to its fullest.
Surviving Thad, in addition to his wife Diana, are: his children, Stacey Barrineau (Scott) Oxendine and Ben B. Barrineau; grandchildren, Bella Diana Jaillette, Shaylee Lynn Barrineau, and Thaddeus Harley Blue; a sister, Eunice Olivia Barrineau of Pawleys Island; and a cousin, Tommy Barrineau of Andrews. In addition to his parents, Thad was preceded in death by a brother, Marion Harley Barrineau.
A celebration of Thad’s life will be 3 PM Sunday, November 14, 2021, at Union Presbyterian Church in Salters. Thad’s family will receive friends following the service in the Martin Building. Online condolences may be sent to the family on the obituary page at www.WilliamsburgFuneralHome.com.

Sorry for your loss
Prayers lifted for comfort and peace. May God’s grace be sufficient for the days ahead. Saddened to hear of the passing of Thad.
Thad was my cousin and the youngest child of Annie Lee Smith and Harley Barrineau, my mom’s brother. Age difference and milage insured that we could be close and engage in family activities. My last contact was by telephone during the Spring of 1989, when I arranged the re-wiring and had a new roof installed on our old home outside Kingstree. I met his wife in about 1972, just before the birth of their child during a quick cross-country pilot training flight. In spite of the reasons for not being close family-wise, Thad, his sister, Eunice and brother, Marion, were frequently in my thoughts. My sincerest condolences and sympathy are with Dianne and the family. Laus Deo (Praise be to God)
So sorry to hear about this, he fought a long time! May God wrap his arms around you and your family during this difficult time!
I am so sorry to hear this. May the peace of God be with you in the coming days.

. I am so sorry to hear of Thad’s passing.
Love and prayers go out to family So sorry to hear this news lots of good times with the COOP family and good suppers with Thad cooking.
I’m glad to have called Thad my friend. I wish I had known him for a real long time but I know that he was the type of man that would do anything for you and give you the shirt off his back. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of his family and friends. I sure will miss all of our fishing trips to Clarks hill.
I have such fond memories of my last visit w/ Thad. He stopped by Uncle Monty’s on Friday, Jan. 25, 2019 to catch up w/ friends. He was the ultimate charming Southern gentleman, visiting w/ everyone. And although he looked great, he admitted his struggle made him tire easily…so we weren’t able to keep him very long. He was doubtful about returning the next day for the annual Boll Weevils Reunion. So glad I had this special time w/ him.

Diana and family. I’m sorry to hear that Thad has passed. I worked with him and Ernest “Buck” Buckles a summer back in the late 70’s at the Coop. I think of those days often because they shaped my future. What young man would not have been proud to work with a Vietnam veteran and a WW II veteran that worked with power? I’ve always considered him one of my heroes. I wish you and yours love and comfort. God bless you all.
