Mildred Bingham Duke, 87, widow of John “Lamar” Duke, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014, in Williamsburg Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Duke was born December 9, 1926, in Olanta, a daughter of the late Arthur H. and Vivian Dorrell Bingham. She was a homemaker and a member of Kingstree Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Duke was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Judy B. Colna, Hazel B. Windham and Virginia B. Epps.

Surviving are: her children, Glenn L. Duke, of Myrtle Beach and Sandra D. Bradham, of Kernersville, NC; sisters, Dorothy Murray and Mary (Warren) Bruner, both of Timmonsville; grandchildren, Steven J. (Sheila) Brown, of Kingstree, Michael J. (Patti) Brown, of Lake City, Benjamin Duke, of Myrtle Beach and Michelle Dennis, of Virginia; great grandchildren, Kayla Brown, Nicholas Brown and Emily Brown, all of Kingstree, Sydney Brown, of Coward, Jeromie Brown, of Lake City, Kayla Duke and Leah Duke, both of Myrtle Beach, and Elizabeth Gainey of Virginia, 4 step great grandchildren; and 4 step great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday, July 5, 2014, at the graveside in Williamsburg Cemetery.

Mrs. Genelle Smith Abrams, 91, widow of Ollie James Abrams, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2014, in Williamsburg Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Abrams was born March 30, 1923, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Richard Leon Smith and Etta Boyd Smith. She was a graduate of Andrews High School and Coker College. She retired after 32 years of teaching at Salters, Johnsonville, and Williamsburg Elementary Schools. Mrs. Abrams was a member of Spring Gulley Baptist Church, where she was active in the Women’s Missionary Union and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class.
Surviving are: her son, James Richard (Mary) Abrams, Sr., of Andrews; grandson, James Richard (YeVonne) Abrams, Jr, of Andrews; granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Abrams Pope, of Conway; and great grandchildren, Allison and James Abrams.

Mrs. Mable Walters Rodgers, 85, widow of Willie M. Rodgers, died Sunday, May 25, 2014, in Tidelands Community Hospice House in Georgetown.

Mrs. Rodgers was born January 11, 1929, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late John D. Walters and Sarah Frances “Fanny” Matthews Walters. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School and was a long-time employee of Sims Flower Shop. She was a member of Kingstree United Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star, and was a Girl Scout Leader throughout the years that her daughter Libby was a Girl Scout. In addition to her parents and her husband Willie, “Miss Mable” was preceded in death by her son William D. “Bill” Rodgers and her sister Christine W. Rodgers.

Surviving are: her daughter Elizabeth R. “Libby” (Gusta G.) Ganes, of Kingstree; granddaughter Heather G. (James W.) Jones, of Surfside; grandson Quintin G. (Courtney E.) Ganes, of Kingstree; great granddaughter Abby Jones, of Surfside; sister Trudy W. (Ray) Wooten, of Kinston, NC; and a special “sister” Willie Marie “Tee” Washington, of Kingstree.

Mr. Colvin Howard, 94, husband of Jacqueline Hardee Howard, passed away at home in Manning Wednesday, May 14, 2014.

Mr. Howard was born December 21, 1919, in Montgomery, AL, a son of the late John Bibb Howard and Genella Rutherford Howard. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Alabama, attended University of Southern California, and received a Master of History Degree from Wetumpka College. Mr. Howard was a retired teacher, having taught 2 years in Hollywood Military Academy and for 31 years in the Los Angeles School System. He was a member of Kingstree United Methodist Church and was a veteran.

Surviving, in addition to his wife “Jackie”, of Manning, are special nephews and nieces, Buddy Knotts, Deedy Knotts, Marjorie (Terry) Thurston, and Chloe (Jim) Black.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday, May 17, 2014, in Kingstree United Methodist Church,
with burial in Kingstree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at 10 AM in the Ladies’ Parlor at the church just prior to the service. Norman Melton Gause, 72, husband of Karen Coleman Gause, died Friday, May 9, 2014, at his residence after an illness.

Mr. Gause was born June 19, 1941, in Kingstree, a son of the late Hobson R. and Leola McKenzie Gause. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and was the owner of Pee Dee Pool and Spa in Florence. Mr. Gause attended Peace Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Clarence Gause, Marion Gause and Douglas Gause.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are: his children, Cynthia M Gause, Norman M. Gause, Jr. and Gary C. Gause all of Florence; his sisters, Roberta G. (Rocky) Gannon, of Darlington, Myrtle G. Powell (Bobby) Smith of Kingstree, and Vivian G. Cooper of Lugoff; his brothers, Raleigh (Mattie) Gause and Beaufort (Nancy) Gause of Kingstree; his grandchildren, Anthony (Genifer) Hayes, Michael Eadie-Gause, and Logan Gause; and a great granddaughter Jordan Hayes.

Funeral services will be 2 P.M. Monday, May 12, 2014, in the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Kingstree Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends Sunday afternoon from 3 to 5 P.M. at his home, 3168 Waterford Drive in Florence and one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Mrs. Frances Epps Tisdale, 61, wife of Jerald Tisdale, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014, in Williamsburg Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Tisdale was born February 3, 1953, in Kingstree, a daughter of Margaret Tanner Epps and the late Charlton W. Epps. She was a graduate of Kingstree Senior High School and was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, where she was a dedicated Vacation Bible School teacher for many years. In addition to her father, Frances was preceded in death by a daughter Tabitha.

Surviving, in addition to her husband Jerald, of Kingstree and her mother Margaret, of Bonneau, are: her son Shane Tisdale, of Nesmith; her brother Charles Epps, of Bonneau; 2 sisters, Peggy Boatwright, of Bonneau and Donna (Terry) Love, of Kingstree.

Graveside funeral services will be 3 PM Saturday, May 10, 2014, in Cedar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
