Charles Richard “Charlie” Barwick, Sr., 85, husband of Peggy Boatwright Barwick, died peacefully at his home in Kingstree, SC, on Sunday, January 19, 2025.
Charlie was born January 2, 1940, in Pinewood, SC, a son of the late David Leroy Barwick, Sr. and Mary Ethel Kolb Barwick. He was a graduate of Pinewood High School and was a veteran of the US Navy. Charlie worked for the US Postal Service for almost 40 years and retired after many years as the Postmaster at Greeleyville, SC. He loved the people of Greeleyville dearly and enjoyed seeing them and their children daily as they came to the post office. The people he worked with in Greeleyville were also very special to him. They really were his (work) family. Charlie was a faithful member of Union Presbyterian Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, a Deacon and an Elder for many years. Charlie had a love for the outdoors that was shown through his farming, fishing and hunting. Time spent at the farm became treasured memories.
Surviving Charlie, in addition to his wife Peggy, are: his children, Joan Barwick of Gaston, SC, Charles R. “Chad” Barwick, Jr. (Jennifer) of Salters, SC, Scarlett Barwick of Kingstree, James S. Barker (Melanie) of Irmo, SC and Rachel Caulder (Will) of Kingstree; grandchildren, Dalton and Amelia Barker, William, Charlie, and Julianne Caulder, and Kaylee Barwick; siblings, David Leroy Barwick, Jr. (Ethel), of Sumter, SC, Raymond Barwick of Pinewood, SC and Lena Barwick of Pinewood, SC. In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan Lifrage Barwick. Charlie’s family would especially like to thank the staff at Amedisys Hospice for their loving and compassionate care of Charlie.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Union Presbyterian Church, with burial in the church cemetery. 16. Eileen Thompson Lifrage Maness

I was sorry to hear about Charlie. When I was first married to Geoff Lifrage, Geoff and I hung out with Joan and Charlie, having supper with them, etc. I knew Scarlet, Chad and Joannie (I think that’s what they used to called her.) when they were young children. When Geoff and I divorced, I lost touch, but I remember Charlie fondly. Prayers to and for you all.
