Dan was born October 4, 1958 in Richland County, son of the late Carl L. Godwin and Mamie C. Godwin. Dan was a man of many traits and talents. He held positions as a sales representative and general manager for many years. He also established and operated his own small construction company until his health declined. Dan was passionate about sharing the love of God with others. He was a faithful member of Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he served as a deacon, soloist, choir member, youth leader, and “chief cook and bottle washer” for Royal Rangers. Dan was known for his compassionate nature, giving spirit, witty sense of humor, and infectious laughter. His personality brought warmth and joy to everyone he encountered. Dan poured out from the strength of Christ within him and a favorite scripture was Philippians 4:13 “ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Our beloved brother Dan was a hero. A modern day good Samaritan who never passes by on the other side, and is always willing to lend a Helping Hand. If you look up the meaning of “good neighbor” in the dictionary, you would see a picture of brother Dan. And, like a good neighbor, he has always been there for over 25 years.

We love and miss him dearly.

May the Holy Spirit, the great comforter, comfort this wonderful family during this time of loss.

We are keeping you all in prayer.

I hadn’t seen you in a while but there on one of my hardest days a day of my first Cancer infusion sat Mrs SaraBeth and as we sat and talked they wheeled Mr Dan out in a wheel chair and though he appeared battle worn in appearance I remember thinking about how strong he was and I knew it was God. I am praying for you all. My heart breaks for you all. I know its a hard one to handle but I also know that you are rejoicing at his reaching his heavenly destination where there will be no more pain or tears and he will wait there for you to also enter in. Though its hard because his absence is deeply felt, he lives on in the heart and soul of each person he has touched with his life. Welcome home good and faithful servant. Take your rest and enjoy you reward Brother. You found the Lily in your valley. With great sadness and admiration I say I will see you when I get there Brother Dan and we will rejoice together again. Family. I love you all. Prayers and love go out to and for each of you. Just remember we all gotta take this journey one day. If you are ready this separation is temporary. Be ready ok.
