A service of worship and thanksgiving will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church.
Visitation
Dr. Johnson’s family will greet friends in Grace Hall at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 just prior to the service.

Dr. Edward Cecil Johnson, 79, husband of Judy Jackson Johnson, died Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at home in Kingstree, surrounded by family.
Dr. Johnson was born May 15, 1944, in Charleston, SC, a son of the late Jack Frank Johnson and Annie Louise Falkenstein Johnson. He was a member of the first graduating class at A.C. Flora High School and received a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of South Carolina. He graduated from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN and served as an optometrist in Kingstree for 43 years, retiring in 2022. Dr. Johnson was a veteran of the US Air Force. He left his service as a Captain and served as a navigator in Vietnam. He was a longstanding member of the Kingstree Lions Club and was a former District Governor. His passions included traveling with family and friends, following all USC Gamecocks sports and was a particularly huge baseball fan. Combining two of his loves, he visited every baseball stadium in the Major Leagues. In addition to his optometric practice, Dr. Johnson taught physics and calculus at Williamsburg Academy for many years. He was a faithful member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon, elder, and Sunday School teacher.
Surviving Dr. Johnson, in addition to his wife of 45 years Judy, are: his son, Brian Edward Johnson of Charleston; his daughter, Kelly J. (Christopher) Fleming of Durham, NC; grandchildren, Anna and Jackson Fleming of Durham; 3 brothers, Dr. Jack F. (Tripp) Johnson of Gilbert, Dr. William A. (Sandra) Johnson of Elgin, and Dr. R. Michael (Medora) Johnson of Columbia; and many dear nieces and nephews.

Ed was my roommate at Carolina fraternity brother, and friend for life. We enjoyed international travel Gamecock sports( long suffering football)and nurturing our kids as they grew up! Ed was a true gentlemen who was easy going always achieved the goals he set! RIP Ed we’ll miss you.

We were very sad to hear of Ed’s passing today. We enjoyed your frienship during our years in Kingstree and beyond. Ed was such a wonderful man and teacher of youth. We always have memories of our baseball trip to Atlanta to see the Braves. Thanks for the many memories of your family.
