Frances Smith Norris, 82, wife of Edward Perry Norris, Jr., passed away at her home in Greeleyville, SC, on January 26, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family.
Frances was born on August 30, 1942, to the late Frank Tillman Smith and Elise Folsom Smith in Bishopville, SC. On March 22, 1959, Frances married Edward Norris and they went on to have 5 children.
Frances is survived by: her husband, Edward; their five children and their spouses, Teressa Gamble and Johnny of James Island, SC, Tony Norris and Marian of Greeleyville, Wendy Cogdill and Chris of Summerton, SC, Charlene McCord and Ken of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Hope Roberts and Will of Durham, NC; They have 11 grandchildren, Lawton Alise Boyd, John R. Gamble, III, Caroline Nash, T.J. Norris, John Perry Norris, Reid Norris, John Kenneth McCord, Grace Bennett, Faith Roberts, Brent Cogdill, and Blake Cogdill; and 14 great-grandchildren, Tony Norris, Amelia Norris, Lily Nash, Eliza Perry Norris, Addie Bell Boyd, Judge Boyd, Lillie Lee Boyd, George Cogdill, Fielding Cogdill, Tillman Cogdill, Hendon Cogdill, Rylan Cogdill, and Camden Cogdill. In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
She was the most beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She found joy in the simplest things in life: a seashell, a peony, a little wren who found its home on her porch. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and fishing in her pond. She loved the beach, especially Isle of Palms and Pawleys Island. But the most important thing in Mama’s life was her faith in God that she found as a young girl, as well as her husband, family, and friends that would gather at their home. She was a member of Greeleyville United Methodist Church.
