Dale was born April 13, 1940, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Harmon and Arcie Smith McKenzie. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and NC State University and was a lifelong farmer. Dale was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed all sports in general, especially WA Athletics, where his children and grandchildren excelled in sports. He loved his grandchildren and closely followed their activities. Dale loved his home of Sandy Bay and the people there. He enjoyed hosting duck hunts and the fellowship that went along with them. Dale received two awards that meant a lot to him: Williamsburg County Agriculturist of the Year and the Jim Kirven Service Award from Williamsburg Academy. He was the last surviving of thirteen children born to Arcie and Harmon McKenzie: 5 boys Herman, Gerald, Binkie, Richard “Sonny Boy”, (and Dale) McKenzie, and 8 girls, Belva O’Cain, Jean Kemmerlin, Josie Shorter, Theda Achee, Helen Pier, Sandra Cantey, Natalie McKenzie, and Marylin McKenzie. In addition to his parents and siblings, Dale was preceded in death by a son, Monte McKenzie.
Surviving Dale, in addition to his wife Velma, are: a son, Tim (Donna) McKenzie, of Kingstree; 2 daughters, Lacee Sutton (Channing Matthews) and Candace (Al) Beard, both of Kingstree; 8 grandchildren, Taylor (Chris) Fulton, Breana, Madalyn, and Mack, Steele, Rivers, and Ann Hadley Sutton, and Skyler Graham; and a great grandchild, Summer Grace Fulton.

I will greatly miss Dale as he was an encouragement to me because he was just direct and honest. I cherish the times we talked and laughed about the so called well meaning actions of people. I had and always will have respect for Dale McKenzie, sign John hudson, former pastor of Second Baptist Church, Kingstree, SC

My Condolences to the McKenzie family. My dad, Louis “Johnny” Feagin was friends with Mr. Dale and I always enjoyed their conversations when they met. Mr. Dale always had a good word to say and was a gentleman and and a pillar of the Sandy Bay community. I know the family is hurting and the community hurts with you, we will all miss Mr. Dale.
Velma: So sorry to hear about Dale. He will be greatly missed. We are praying for you and family’s loss. May God comfort each and every one of you during this time.
Velma, both, you and Dale have been my life-long friends. We had the best of times growing up together. It is hard to think of one without the other. Words can’t begin to describe the loss of such a friend. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. Bobby
Velma and family – I am so sorry to hear of Dale’s passing and wish I could be with you. My thoughts and prayers are of you all. Dale was a genuine friend – 12 grades together – and lots of events. My thoughts this morning were of the many things we did together from bird hunting, to sharing some victories on the football field. That thought I relish most is the recent class reunion that Dale obviously enjoyed with friends very much, having fond memories of the tunes of our youth and recollections of good times. He loved his friends and family dearly and will be missed by many.
I am truly sorry for your loss. Sending all my love and prayers. Much love, Stacey
Our deepest sympathy – your family is in our thoughts and prayers.
Mrs. Velma, mom and I send our deepest sympathy.
