Jeanne Matthews Walker, 70, widow of Wade H. Walker, passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 29, 2019, at the “Ranch”, her beloved home where she was surrounded by some of her most loved things- her chickens, her horse, her dog, her cats, her new porch, and her Secret Garden.
Mrs. Walker was born September 9, 1948, in Andrews, a daughter of the late Winston Bryant Matthews and Mary Elizabeth McQueen Matthews. She was a graduate of Andrews High School and worked at Piggly Wiggly for more than twenty years. Jeanne had a love for animals and yard work, but her most favorite place in the world was by the seashore where she spent many a weekend in a lounge chair soaking up the sun and finding peace from the smell of the ocean and the sound of the waves crashing onto the shore. Jeanne had a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed singing in the choir at Kingstree United Methodist Church and in the choir at Trinity Methodist Church in Andrews, where she was currently a member. In addition to her parents and her husband Wade Walker, Jeanne was preceded in death by the most recent love of her life, Harold T. Bath.
Jeanne leaves behind her only daughter, Josette T. (Ernie) Jarrett, of Kingstree and her beloved grandchildren who called her “Gampie”, Kyle (Lauren) Smith, Katie Jarrett, and Winston Jarrett.

Jeanne loved her family and after each visit, text, or call, they would say, “I love you, Mom (or “Gampie”) and Jeanne always replied with, “I love you more.”
Condolences to the family. May God bring you comfort during these difficult times.
I am truly sorry to hear this news. She was a good friend and a special person. I met her and Mr Wade a few years ago at the auction and they instantly became my friends. My thoughts and prayers are with Josette and all effected by this loss

Josette, I am so sorry. My prayers are with you and your family. I remember her when we used to wait for y’all at dancing.
Dear Josette, Ernie, and Family, My heart was broken this morning, as I got a call about Jeanne’s passing. It still doesn’t seem real that she is gone ever so quickly my dear. I can hear her voice over the phone. “Girl, have you got me a fresh brewed pitcher of your sweet tea, I’m headed your way for a visit.” It usually took us about five hours to love each other through conversation, and very much so through our love of cross stitch, Pawley’s Island, and yes, for our furry children. She was always joyful, had kind words and a warm heart, and yes, we shared a special sisterhood that most people miss out on in life. Know that I am praying much for all of you during this very difficult time, and my heart will forever miss Jeanne, and her beautiful voice, and spirit. I know that her beloved “Prissy”, is munching on a big bowl of Meow Mix cat food(of all things), and Jeanne is sipping her sweet tea, and singing sweetly to that precious little doggie in Heaven tonight. Prayers!
I was so sad to hear of Jeanne’s passing. I had the pleasure of working with Jeanne at “the Pig”. We shared a lot of laughs, and many stories about our families, and I know for a fact how proud she was of her’s. Her eyes would light up talking about her grandchildren, and showing pictures of proms, and dance and cheering and the Citadel. Praying for the peace of God to be with the family. I am unable to attend her services, but will be there in spirit.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all…
In Christ..

Always a very sweet lady. I just ran into her not long ago. We chatted for a second and I had to go. We were laughing together when I left. She was always so nice. So sorry for your loss
