Kenneth Charles Thames, Sr., 86, husband of Carolyn Baylor Thames, died Sunday June 8, 2025, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC.
Mr. Thames was born March 1, 1939, in Florence, a son of the late Charles Laverne Thames and Mildred Carter Thames. He retired from Williamsburg County School System Maintenance Department and was owner/operator of Thames Appliance Services until his health declined. Kenneth used his time and talents to help others, especially the elderly of the community. He could fix just about anything and would often charge nothing at all. He was a member of Kingstree First Baptist Church. Kenneth enjoyed fishing and farming and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sports activities.
In addition to Carolyn, his wife of 58 years, Kenneth is survived by: his three sons, Kenneth C. “Ken” (Tammy) Thames, Jr of Alcolu, SC, Kevin (Michelle) Thames of Johnsonville, SC, and Kerry (Emily) Thames of Kingstree; his daughter, Amy (Bruce) Gause of Kingstree; a brother, Billy (Joyce) Thames of Martha’s Vineyard, MA; half-sister, Linda Whitten of Lexington, SC; grandchildren, Kenneth C. (Laci) Thames, III, Phillip (Amber) Thames, and Christian (Evan) Floyd, all of New Zion, SC, Melinda Thames of Andrews, SC, Kimberly Thames of Hemingway, SC, Sgt. Neal (Megan) Thames of Hinesville, GA, Brittany (Tyler) Morris of Johnsonville, SC, Brandon Ray of Tucson, AZ, Brook (Austin) Rabon of Johnsonville, Madison Thames of Johnsonville, Nathan (Breanna) Thames of Kingstree, Abigail (Sergio) Tranquilino of Simpsonville, SC, Brandy Lambert of Charleston, SC, Justin (Maci) Gause of Kingstree, and Brandy Gause of Kingstree; and many great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by a brother, Carter Thames of Rincon, GA, his grandparents who raised him, Ross and Eunice Thames, his stepmother, Claire Thames, and a great grandson, Noah Thames. The Thames family would like to offer a special thank you to Kenneth’s caregivers, Mary Cooper and Shonda McCullough of Guardian Angels Senior Care for their love and compassion.
