Lena C. Benton

     Lena Crawford Jones Benton, 98, died Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at Commander Nursing Home in Florence.

  Mrs. Benton was born on September 4, 1922, a daughter of the late Landy Crawford and Mattie McGee Crawford. She was a graduate of Flora McDonald College and Draughons Business College. Lena was secretary for 4^th Corp Army Reserve and retired from H & T Sales Company after 35 years as bookkeeper. She was a member of Beulah Free Will Baptist Church in Pamplico. After moving to Kingstree, she attended Williamsburg Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Church Circle.

  Surviving Mrs. Benton are: a son, John W. Jones, Jr.; 4 step sons, Will (Gloria) Benton; Allen (Barbara) Benton; Walter (Sandy) Benton); and Carl Benton; a stepdaughter, Diane (Harris) Worrell; 4 grandchildren, 9 step grandchildren,  5 great grandchildren, 13 step great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lena was preceded in death by her husbands John W. Jones and John W. “Pete” Benton; a son, Marvin Jones; and a brother, L.C. Crawford.

     She loved her family and her church family. She was never too busy to help someone who needed her.

     Graveside services will be held at 1:00PM on Thursday, December 24, 2020, in Beulah Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in Pamplico.
