Marie was born December 16, 1922, in Summerton, SC to Herman and Fannie Litman Fox. She moved with her family to Greeleyville, SC as a young child, and lived most of her life with the friends she loved in Greeleyville until moving to Charleston 14 years ago.
Marie was a true Southern Lady. She was a graduate of Greeleyville High School, where she returned to teach English and French after graduating from the University of South Carolina with an English major and a French minor. Marie had a beautiful voice and sang in the USC Glee Club. Returning to Greeleyville after graduation, she taught, worked for her father, and waited on her beloved Lenny to return from the war. When he returned, they were married on January 27, 1946.
Marie’s life was filled with her passions. She was an accomplished musician, a member of the Greeleyville Garden Club, and an active member of the PTA. Marie gave the education of her children her highest priority. She was one of the founding members of Temple Beth Or in Kingstree, where she was the president of the Sisterhood and the first female president of the congregation, becoming a member of Synagogue Emanu-El when she moved to Charleston.
Surviving are: her children, Dr. David (Ruth) Grossman of Kingstree, Risa Grossman of Columbia, Dr. Farrel Grossman and Dr. Colby (Fran) Grossman of Charleston; 4 grandchildren, Alyson (Russell) Traw of Matthews, NC, Rose Beth Grossman of Mt. Pleasant, Ellis (Kelly) Grossman and Brice Grossman of Charleston; and 2 great grandchildren, Stella and Judah Traw of Matthews, NC.
Graveside funeral services, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, December 2, 2014, in Beth Or Cemetery, 245 S Eastland Avenue, Kingstree, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Addlestone Hebrew Academy, 1639 Wallenberg Blvd., Charleston, SC 29407. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.WilliamsburgFuneralHome.com.
To the Grossman family. I am sorry to hear of your recent loss and pray that you all find peace in the incredible legacy your mother/grandmother has left within all of you.

Sorry to hear about the death of Mrs. Grossman. I enjoyed seeing her when I went to school in Greeleyville and was in the same grade as David. It was a pleasure to know the Grossman family over the years and to see how all of our lives turned out. Best of wishes in the future.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. May you find comfort in the promises at Revelation 21:4 that reads; “And he will wipe out ever tear from their eyes and death will be no more. Neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things has passed away.”
It was with a very sad heart when we read of your Mom’s passing. Kay and I send to you all our condolences the memories of the your Mom I had from the few times I had the pleasure of meeting her extremely nice.
