Mildred McCutchen Small, 94, widow of W.J. Small, Jr., passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Sunday, March 7, 2021, at her home after a long illness.
Mrs. Small was born in Kingstree on January 8, 1927, the daughter of the late Agnes “Addie” McClary McCutchen and Hampton Rutledge McCutchen. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School and was the dental assistant to Dr. Thomas G. McCabe for over 40 years. She was a dedicated member of Kingstree United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Wallace Connor Sunday School Class, the Gary Hemingway Circle, and the Hospitality Committee as long as her health allowed. “Miss Mildred” was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Eugene Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Miss Mildred’s world revolved around her family and she showed her love by preparing each person’s favorite, whether it be her special Sand Tarts, party mix, cheese straws or her signature dinner of pot roast, carrots and potatoes, brown rice, squash casserole with Chocolate Delight for dessert.
Survivors are: three daughters, Mildred Ann Freeman of Shalimar, FL, Jane (Ed) Griffith of St. Matthews, SC, and Nancy (Guy) McClary of Kingstree; six grandchildren, Clay (Ava) Freeman, Elizabeth (Josh) Hunter, Benjamin (Lauren) Griffith, Chandler (Joda) Griffith, Amy (Brian) Ard, and Gee (Beth) McClary; fifteen great grandchildren, Shaun, Ryan and Max Freeman, Cole and Addie Hunter, Mary Karr, Clara, and Millie Griffith, Emerson, Knox, and Henry Griffith, Austin and Michael Ard, and Guy and Reese McClary. In addition to her husband and her parents, Miss Mildred was preceded in death by her three brothers, Marvin, Rhodas, and Liston McCutchen. Her family would like to thank the staff at Regency Southern Care Hospice, especially Erica, Crystal and Sheila, for their loving care of Miss Millie. The sitters who cared for Miss Millie, Lee Washington, Brenda Burgess, Blanche McClary, and Johnnie Sheppard were good not only to Miss Millie, but also to her family and it is much appreciated.

I am so sorry for your loss. Ms Millie will be missed. Everyone loved her. My thoughts and prayers are with you all
Mildred Ann, Jane and Nancy my heart truly breaks for each of you! Miss Millie was such a special lady and she will be missed by so many people. My Mom valued her friendship so much and they always checked up on each other the last few years that Mom was alive. Unfortunately as we age, so do our parents and we know that we will not have them forever, but it sure is hard to say goodbye. Rejoice in the fact that she and your Dad are together and you will see them again one day. You and your families are in my heart and my prayers.
Sandy
Jane so sad to hear your Mom died. She was such a true lady…The only time I met her was in the mountains many years ago when we had a fish fry…
Please let me know of anything I can do to help you at this time,

Miss Millie was a very sweet person. I loved visiting with her and Mrs. Doris when I lived in the little
yellow house. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you, Amy and all of your family.
Dearest Jane, know that I am thinking about you as you are mourning the death of your precious mama. Losing our mothers is especially hard, I think, because it seems as if we have always been with them and they with us. Letting go is painful; yet, we know that God is good and that one day we will be United with them. What a glorious day that will be! Until that day, we will hold them in our hearts and rejoice over the time we spent with them. Bless you, dear one❤️
I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. Prayers to you and your families.
