  4. Dr. John T. Wynn, President Emeritus Williamsburg Technical College

Walter was a staunch advocate for quality education which he demonstrated by his long service on the Board of Williamsburg Technical College. He was a strong supporter from the beginning when WTC was known as the “Manpower Training Center” and remained thus through the years as WTC transitioned into a fullly accredited and responsible community college. He provided support needed for the development of WTC from a broad assortment of programs without structure into a fully developed and respected community college. Walter encouraged essential growth and insights for others. He was a friend and a respected colleague that I hold in high esteem. Our deepest sympathy goes to Joann and the family from Myra and myself.

  12. Dr. Jimmie Williamson

Joanne and family…I am heartbroken to learn of Walter’s passing. What an incredible, inspiring and thoughtful man. When I first became President at WTC, he was one of my early confidants. He would always tell me, in very congenial language, what he REALLY thought and I trusted his wisdom and expertise. He was a true gentleman and someone I greatly admired. WTC is better for having his wisdom, leadership and insight. He was a gentle spirit that encouraged, respected and trusted his colleagues and the administration. A humble, and kind man, he had tremendous insight and ALWAYS wanted what was best for the community, the college and the students. He will be greatly missed. I am a better person for having known him and my prayers will continue for each of you.

  15. Elaine Castles

What a blessed family we were a part of in Kingstree. Walter was a beloved first cousin; my Mama, Amy Brown Baker, was one of Uncle Laurie’s sisters. We grew up together sharing family times, church fellowship, school days, graduation and moving on to where our Lord led us. My beloved husband of 57 years went to be with the Lord June 27, this year. My love and prayers to Joanne and each of their family members. Great is the faithfulness of our Lord.

  16. Kate (Kathy Moore) Schneider

My prayers and thoughts to all of Walter’s Family. Many memories of times in Kingstree with him and all the family.
