     Virginia Rhem Hinson, 98, widow of Roscoe M. Hinson, died Thursday, November 14, 2013, in Covenant Place in Sumter, SC
.
     Mrs. Hinson was born December 25, 1914, in Orangeburg, SC, a daughter of the late Laurice F. Rhem and Virginia Seignious Rhem. She was raised on Old Morrisville Plantation in Williamsburg County, attended Winthrop College and graduated from Winyah Business School. Mrs. Hinson was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution, the SC Society of the Dames of The Court of Honor and The Daughters of the American Colonists. She was a Girl Scout Leader and a Past President of the State PTA. She was an avid golfer, having made a hole-in-one at the age of 77. She won many golf tournaments, including Club Champion at the Kingstree and Litchfield courses, SC Seniors Champion, and the American Golf Association Seniors Champion. In addition to her parents and husband Roscoe, Mrs. Hinson was preceded in death by her brother Laurice F. Rhem, Jr. and her son-in-law, David Miller. 

     Surviving are: her 3 children, Virginia “Ginger” H. Joye and her husband Carl Wilbur Joye, of Kingstree, Elizabeth H. “Bette” Miller, of Kingstree, and Roscoe M. “Rock” Hinson, Jr., and his wife Elizabeth T. Hinson, of Georgetown; her sister, Elaine R. Welsh, of Columbia, SC; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren.

      Graveside funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday, November 16, 2013, in Williamsburg Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the cemetery following the service. Memorials may be made to Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, 411 N. Academy Street, Kingstree, SC 29556 or to a charity of one’s choice.
