Mr. Russell Dempson “Demp” Feagin,78, husband of Thelma Winstead “Beth” Feagin, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2020, at his residence in Kingstree.

     Mr. Feagin was born December 14, 1941, a son of the late Colin McRoy Feagin and Louise Parker Feagin. Russell attended Cedar Swamp Schools and was a retired contractor. He and his late brother Johnny owned and operated Feagin Brothers Construction Company for many years, serving so many people of Williamsburg County.  Russell was an avid hunter and a master woodworker.

     Surviving in addition to his wife Beth, are: his sons, Andre (Michelle) Feagin; and Ron Feagin; special son, Al Atkinson; two step sons, Paul B. (Jodie) Williams; and Jerry A. (Cyndi Koehler) Williams; two grandchildren, Russ Feagin and Josie Feagin; two step grandchildren, Jacob and Lailah Williams; a sister, Lorraine Lambert; and a special daughter of the family, Dr. Linlei Ward.

      In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by his first wife, Ilaphine Feagin; brothers, Ollie Ray Feagin and Johnny Feagin; and sisters, Coralie Davis and Ola Mae Young.

    Linda Jones Hupp, 71, widow of Garrison Scherich “Gary” Hupp, Jr., died Monday, August 17, 2020, in Morningside of Georgetown.

     Mrs. Hupp was born January 10, 1949, in Florence, a daughter of the late John Richard Jones and Anna Lee Strong Jones. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School. Linda was a homemaker with a talent for decorating. She loved Christmas, especially, and would place a tree in every room. Linda was also an avid gardener and loved working in her yard. Her talent for putting a plant in some dirt and telling it to “flip or fly” resulted in a backyard oasis full of color and shade.  

     Surviving are: her daughter, Michelle Gannon, of Kingstree; a son, Gary Lewis, of Missouri; a cherished niece, Wanda Floyd; grandchildren, Madeline Lewis, Winston Lewis, Erin “Atlas” Gannon, Leahanna Lewis, and Cody Lewis; sisters, Judy McCutchen, Annette Pinson, and Jean Doherty; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Linda was preceded in death by her sisters, Louise Schartel and Patsy Caulder.

Juanita Elizabeth “Maga” Dukes Thompson, 77, wife of Franklin Thompson, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2020, at MUSC Health Florence Medical Center.

     Juanita was born April 26, 1943, in Greeleyville, SC, a daughter of the late Weekus Stokes Dukes and Mary Alice Timmons Dukes. She was a graduate of Greeleyville High School and worked at Baxter’s Travenol Laboratories. Juanita was known for her famous cake squares, she enjoyed baking cakes for everyone in the community. She was an avid Carolina Gamecock fan and loved planting flowers. Juanita was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, and was in charge of Sunday School attendance.

     Survivors are: her husband, Franklin Thompson, of Kingstree; a daughter, Sandy Fowler, of Simpsonville; a son, Greg (Kim) Thompson, of Lake City; four beloved grandchildren, Matthew Fowler, Jordan Fowler, Elizabeth Thompson, and Leann Thompson; a brother, Grady Dukes, of Little Mountain; and a sister, Mary Ellen Oliver, of Greeleyville. In addition to her parents, Juanita was preceded in death by a grandson, Quentin Thompson; and five siblings, Wheeler Dukes, James Dukes, Marbeth Cain, Carey Dukes, and Azalee Brown.

Nancy Eaddy Morris, 73, wife of Wayne Morris, died Friday, August 14, 2020, at her residence.

Mrs. Morris was born May 29, 1947, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Willard Eaddy Jr. and Bertha Mae Gibbons Eaddy. She was a graduate of Greeleyville High School. Mrs. Nancy was a member of Kingstree Church of God. She enjoyed going to church and spending time with her family.

Surviving in addition to her husband of 53 years are: her children, Keith Morris, of Lansing, MI; Bubba Morris, of Cades; and Jamie (Shea) Morris, of Kingstree; grandchildren, Justice Morris and Hunter Morris, both of Kingstree; brother, Bill (Cindy) Eaddy, of Kingstree; step grandchildren, Jaelynn, Jasmynn, and Ashlynn Mizelle of Kingstree. In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Floyd.

Vivian Amerson Perkins, 77, widow of Clarence “Ed” Perkins, died Friday, August 7, 2020, at her home in Kingstree.  

     Mrs. Perkins was born March 13, 1943, in Darlington, SC, a daughter of the late Carl Major Amerson and Pauline Minnie Goodson Amerson. She was a graduate of St John High School and was a supervisor at the sewing plant in Coward. “Miss Vivian” was an avid golfer and loved her flowers, planting many different varieties.

     Surviving Mrs. Perkins are: her sons, Tony (Joan) Coward of Kingstree and Billy Coward of Greenville; her daughter, Brenda (William) Hodge of Manning; brothers, Butch (Frances) Amerson of Florence and Larry Wayne (Chris) Wilkes of Kansas; sister, Ann Jackson of Florence; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; her beloved four-legged baby, Milo; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband Clarence, whom she loved dearly, Vivian was preceded in death by a brother Eddie Amerson and a sister Betty Powell. Vivian’s family would like to thank the staff of Regency Southern Care who took such good care of her, especially nurses and caregivers, Erica Wilkes, Kara Nutter, Carrie Beck, and Shaneka Dundy.

Ricky David McDonald, 44, passed away at his home on Thursday, August 6, 2020, in Murrells Inlet.

Ricky was born on September 30, 1975, in Sumter County, a son of Edward David McDonald and Judy Lynn Powell McDonald. He was a graduate of Williamsburg County Schools, Horry Georgetown Technical College, where he received an associate degree in Forestry and received a bachelor’s Degree in Business from Coker College.  Ricky worked for SC Forestry Commission early in his career and worked for Canfor as a timber buyer for many years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved spending time with his son.

Surviving Ricky are: his son, Clifton David McDonald, of Murrells Inlet; parents, Judy Lynn Powell (Jimmy L. Todd) McDonald, of Pamplico; and Edward D. (Elizabeth) McDonald, of Kingstree; sister, Becky (Michel) Tyner, of Scranton; nieces, Rebecca L. Hudson and Bailey Tyner; nephew, Dylan Tyner; step brother, Ronald M. (Stefanie) Joye, of Sumter; nephews, Trip and Curt Joye; step sister, Patricia (Casey) Sellers, of Florence; nephews, Beckett and Jaxon Sellers; and niece Olivia Sellers; and special friends, Rod and Mandy Bryant and their children Anna Grace and Evan.

Richard Watson McKenzie, Sr., 83, husband of the late Nancy Ann Spears McKenzie, passed peacefully on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC.

   Mr. McKenzie was born on September 20, 1936 in Scranton, South Carolina and was the son of Leroy Watson and Lila Mae McCutcheon McKenzie. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, enlisting during the Korean War and serving in Germany. He graduated from Carolina College of Commerce, was owner of Max’s Department Store and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after many years as Postmaster.

   Mr. McKenzie was a member of the Kingstree First Baptist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the USAF Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol. He was also a Master Mason and a Shriner.

   In his early years he enjoyed flying planes, playing golf, fishing and traveling. He coached Williamsburg Academy’s Boys’ Golf team and Little League Baseball and was also a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America.

   Mr. McKenzie is survived by his daughter, Linda McKenzie (Hal) Lamb of Kingstree; his son, Richard “Ricky” Watson (Angie) McKenzie, Jr. of Hemingway; five grandchildren, Blake Lamb (Madison) of Mount Pleasant; Kevin Lamb (Natalie) of Kingstree, and Olivia Lowery (James) of Sumter; Linda Ann McKenzie of Johnsonville, and Ashlee McKenzie, of Hemingway; three great-grandchildren Scarlett McKenzie of Hemingway, Trey Lowery of Sumter, and Hal Lamb of Kingstree; and his cherished sister Elsie McKenzie (Reezin) Swilley, of Houston, Texas. In addition to his parents, Mr. McKenzie was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Joe “Buddy” McKenzie, and a sister, Roylee Usery.

   A graveside service will be held at 11 AM, Friday, August 7, 2020 at Kingstree Memorial Gardens directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. The family will receive friends immediately following the services at the cemetery. Masks should be worn and social distancing rules will be used at both gatherings. 

   The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Southland Health Care Center who provided such loving comfort and care to Mr. McKenzie and to the caregivers who helped take care of Mr. McKenzie and his late wife at their home: Gail McCrea, Justine Graham and Jessica Scott.

Clinton Odell Crick, 72, husband of Marilyn Moore Crick, passed away in McLeod Hospice House in Florence on August 4, 2020, after a brave battle with cancer.  Born March 4, 1948, in Kingstree, he was the son of the late Gorden Lee Crick and Virginia Harrington Crick.

      Clinton grew up in Kingstree, graduated from Kingstree High School in 1966, then earned his Associates Degree in Automotive Service Technology from Daytona State College.  Shortly after proposing to the love of his life, Florence Marilyn Moore Crick, Clinton enlisted in the United States Air Force, served in active duty, and was deployed to Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. He later served at Luke Air Force Base in Phoenix, AZ, and then, during the Vietnam War, he was deployed to Johnston Atoll near Hawaii, and soon transferred to Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, where his first son, Brandon was born.

      After his military service, Clinton and his family moved to Stockbridge, Georgia, where he worked at The Hartford Insurance Agency as a steam boiler inspector. While there, his second son, Collin, was born.  Clinton and his family moved to Belvedere, Georgia, and during that time he earned his Associates Degree in Business from Aiken Technical College.

       In 1980, Clinton and Marilyn returned to their hometown of Kingstree with their young family, where Clinton purchased his father Gorden Lee’s business.  Kingstree Laundry and Rental thrived under Clinton’s entrepreneurial drive and steadfast commitment to a tireless principal of devotion to his customers, employees, community and family.   Clinton was a faithful servant in the Kingstree United Methodist Church for many years, where he served as a Trustee, on the Finance Committee, Staff/Parish Relations Committee, and as an Usher.

       He loved his family with all of his heart, was always finding a way to help others, and “making memories” always brought a great big smile to his face.  Clinton enjoyed spending time at the beach with his family and on the golf course with his friends.

He rarely sat still, never “burned daylight,” could fix anything, made the best catfish stew in the world, gave the best hugs, and never met a stranger.

      Surviving is his beloved wife of 52 years, Florence Marilyn Moore Crick.  He also leaves behind two sons, Brandon Gregory Crick and his wife Kristy Kinard Crick of Conway, S.C.; and Collin Wade Crick and his wife Betsy Clarkson Crick of Lexington, S.C.  He was affectionately known as “Pop” by his grandchildren, who brought so much pride and joy to his life – Blaine Thomas Crick, Lindsay Elaine Crick, Hailey Elizabeth Crick, and Rebecca Harrington Crick.  He is also survived by two sisters, Marilee Crick Morris and Doris Crick Duke, his sister-in-law, Carolyn Canipe Crick, and brother-in-law, Walter Everett Moore, III.  He was predeceased by his brother, Dennis “Bill” Gorden Crick, and two brothers-in-law, Donald Morris and Kenneth Gene Duke.

Lattie Mae Kelty, 72, died Sunday, August 2, 2020, at her home in Lane after a brief illness.

Ms. Kelty was born November 26, 1947, in Lane, SC, a daughter of the late Dow Brunson and Letha Dukes Kelty. She attended Williamsburg County Schools and after her mother died at a young age, Lattie moved to Philadelphia to live with her older sister. There she worked at Procacci Brothers Produce and then at Joe’s Cheesesteak and Hoagies for several years. After coming back to Lane, Lattie started keeping house and babysitting to help raise her sons. She helped numerous families in Williamsburg County, becoming an indispensable part of the family and raising their children too. Lattie’s love for others, especially children, didn’t end there. She kept her nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, grandchildren and even great grandchildren well into her golden years. Lattie was a member of Bethel AME Church in the Gourdin area of Williamsburg County, where she was a member of the Usher Board and the Kitchen Committee.

Surviving Ms. Kelty are her 2 sons, Vincent (Karen) Kelty of Lane and John Robinson of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren, Vanessa (Kenneth) Samuels, Shaneka Pendergrass, Chiquita (Frank) Woods, Dajuan (Shakaylia) Samuels, Janaya Robinson, Heidi (Miguel) Wilson, Javian Robinson, Kaywine (Christa) Giles, Anthony Robinson, and Chris (Kendra) Barr; 20 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Leola Kelty, of Baltimore, Burdell Kelty of Lane, and Margaretha (William) Gibson of Philadelphia; brother, John Brunson of Greensboro, NC; and brother-in-law, Lonnie Murray of New York City; special cousins, Fannie Brunson and Florine Brunson, both of Lane; God son, Jonas Bernard Brunson of Lane; several beloved cousins who were like siblings; and other family and friends who Lattie treasured dearly. Joseph Byron “Joey” Dorrell, 46, died Sunday, August 2, 2020, at his home in Kingstree.

     Mr. Dorrell was born October 12, 1973, in Kingstree, SC, a son of Kathryn Sue Thompson Dorrell and the late Barry Miller Dorrell. He was a graduate of Kingstree Senior High and attended Horry-Georgetown Tech. Joey worked for Aero Tech, specializing in crop dusting- mixing and loading tanks. He was an avid Clemson fan; loved Star Wars, cooking, gardening; and was a craftsman. Joey was loved by his nieces and nephews and he doted on them. He had a big heart for any stray animal and was always rescuing them.

     Surviving Mr. Dorrell, in addition to his mother Kathy of Kingstree, are: his fiancé, Heather Palmer of Kingstree; brother, Phillip (Marisor) Dorrell of Baldwin, MD; sister, Emily (Michael) Blocker of Greenville, SC; brother, Billy (Amber) Dorrell of Rock Hill; nieces and nephews, Will, Madeline, Nathaniel, Ryan, Benjamin, Susannah, Mya, Matthew, Sam, Cori and Tori; cats, Ted and Maxine; and his fish Bud. Jennie Rebecca Barnes, 42, died Thursday, July 30, 2020, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence.

     Rebecca was born February 2, 1978, in Georgetown, SC, a daughter of Donald Wayne Barnes and Jennie Williamson Holt. She was a graduate of Williamsburg Academy and Winthrop University. Rebecca was a Nursing Assistant and worked at Wellmore Assisted Living and for Magnolia Home Health. She was close to earning her black belt in karate and attended the Church of the Nazarene.

     Survivors are: her mother, Jennie W. Holt, of Andrews; her father, Donald W. Barnes, of Warner Robins, GA; a sister, Beth (Dan) Dynan, of Florence; two nieces, Savannah and McKenna Dynan, of Florence; and a half sister, Morgan Barnes, of Warner Robbins, GA.

      Mr. James Franklin Thompkins, 59, husband of Dianna Quattlebaum Thompkins, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2020, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital in Kingstree SC. 

     Mr. Thompkins was born March 7, 1961, in Loris, SC, a son of the late Paul Thompkins and Sarah Britt. He was a graduate of Garrett High School in Charleston, SC. James was in the grocery business ever since he was a child. He worked as a teenager with his father at Paul’s Meat and Grocery on Nassau Street in Charleston, SC.  James was a former member of the St. Stephen Lion’s Club, market manager of St. Stephen IGA for 23 years, and was the current manager and owner operator of Kingstree IGA since 2006 in Kingstree, SC. He had many accomplishments. He was Chamber of Commerce Retailer of The Year in 2012 and Deacon at the Kingstree First Baptist Church, in Kingstree, SC. He was also the Grand Marshall in the St. Stephen and Kingstree Parade. James was well known for his hard work ethics and contagious love for others. What he enjoyed the most was spending time with family at the lake. Not only was he a hard worker, he was a wonderful, loving, providing husband, father, and Pepaw. He will be greatly missed by many who knew him. 

      Surviving James, in addition to his wife of 39 years, Dianna, are: A daughter Melissa Thompkins (Jason) Gentry, of Moncks Corner SC; two grandchildren, Carolyna Gentry and Corbyn Gentry; three sisters, Diane (Wayne) Norman, of Eutawville, SC; Janet (John) Wyndham, of Hollywood, SC; and Paula (Paul) Yancy, of Alabama; and several nieces and nephews.

Larry Christopher “Chris” Mitchum, 41, husband of Lesley Hanna Mitchum, died Sunday, July 26, 2020, at his residence.

Mr. Mitchum was born November 14, 1978, in Williamsburg County, a son of Larry Mitchum and the late Alethia “Jeannie” Nexsen Mitchum. He was a graduate of Williamsburg Academy and attended Williamsburg Technical College. Chris was a farmer and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Lane United Methodist Church.

Surviving Chris are: his father, Larry (Pearline) Mitchum, of Lake City; his wife Lesley Hanna Mitchum, of Pamplico, a son, Andrew Mitchum, of Pamplico; a daughter, Emma Grace Mitchum, of Pamplico; and a sister, Jennifer (Chris) McKenzie, of Kingstree. Chris was preceded in death by his mother, Alethia Nexsen Mitchum.

Ruth Marie Phillips Grayson, 91, widow of Harvey L. Grayson, Sr., died Monday, July 20,2020, at Roper Hospice Cottage in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.

    Born to William Thomas Phillips, Sr. and Sallie Coker Phillips on February 12, 1929, in the Cedar Swamp Community of Williamsburg County. She was a member of Cedar Swamp United Methodist Church, where she served as Sunday School teacher, Church Treasurer, Historian and member of the PPRC. Ruth attended Cedar Swamp School, was a graduate of Kingstree High School and attended Coker College. She was employed by the Exchange Bank of Kingstree and the SC Department of Social Services. She loved her church, her large family, her church family, gardening, traveling, caring for others, making lemon pies, and especially loved reading.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters, Mary Phillips Epps, Virginia Coker Phillips, Lula Phillips, and twin sister Naomi P. Ward and brothers, Cecil Phillips, Wilbur Phillips, Leslie Phillips, Coker Phillips, W. T. Phillips, Henry Phillips, and Jack Phillips.

    Surviving are her four children, Leon (Carolyn) Grayson of Kingstree, Sarah V. Grayson of Litchfield , C. Allen Grayson of Kingstree, and Myra Grayson (Steve) Nuttall of Georgetown; four grandchildren: BetC (Grier) Copeland, Bart (Carrie) Grayson, Tish Grayson and Sean (Heather) Grayson; five great grandchildren: Grayson, Carter, and Peyton Copeland, Jonathan and Stephen Grayson; and her special niece, Doris P. Cline.

Henry Lavern “Vern” Osborne, 61, died Saturday, July 18, 2020, in Charleston after an auto vs bicycle accident.

Mr. Osborne was born February 21, 1959, in Manning, SC, a son of the late William Otto Osborne and Virginia “Ginny” Osborne Osborne. He was a graduate of Goose Creek High School and was a heavy equipment operator. In his spare time, Vern enjoyed refinishing old furniture and giving it a new life.

Surviving Mr. Osborne are: 3 children, Brittnay O. (Dante) Sloan of Goose Creek, Savannah O. Connor of Mt. Pleasant, and Timothy (Jessica) Osborne of Moncks Corner; 6 grandchildren; and 3 sisters, Vivian O. Humbert, Judy Osborne and Evelyn O. Justice, all of St. Stephen. In addition to his parents, Vern was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Osborne.

     Jackie Linda McCutcheon Price, 63, widow of Robert D. Price, died Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at her residence in Kingstree.

     Mrs. Price was born March 20, 1957, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Jack and Alberta Springs McCutcheon. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School and a member of Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church.

         Surviving Mrs. Jackie are a daughter, Dena Price (Jimmy Ray) Disher, of Kingstree; grandchildren, Kala Disher and Tyler Disher, both of Kingstree; a great grandson, Rivers Lee; two brothers, Rudolph McCutcheon, of Cades and Paul McCutcheon, of Kingstree; a sister, Joann Coker, of Cades; a special beloved friend, Patrick Patterson; and her beloved dog, Tiny.

Patsy Maynor Cannon, 79, widow of Harry Marcus Cannon, died Tuesday, July 14, 2020, in McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC.

     Mrs. Cannon was born July 25, 1940, in Dillon, SC, a daughter of the late Paul Maynor and Mable Berry Maynor. Patsy attended Kingstree High School and was a housewife. She enjoyed reading and helping Harry when he was living.

     Surviving Mrs. Cannon are: her daughter, Lisa Cannon of Salters; 2 brothers, Grady Maynor of James Island, SC and Bill Maynor of Salters, SC; and several nieces and nephews.

Florence Clementine Mims Metts, 89, widow of Hampton M. Metts, died Sunday, July 12, 2020, in NHC Healthcare in Murrells Inlet, SC.

Mrs. Metts was born April 20, 1931, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Apgar Durant Mims and Annie Harriett Covington Mims. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School and continued her studies at Draughn’s Business College, Richland Technical College, and Rutledge College at the University of South Carolina, all in Columbia, SC. She completed their courses in secretarial training and medical office procedures, receiving certificates in each course. Throughout her career, she worked at medical offices in Columbia and Charleston before retiring to Moncks Corner.

Florence was married to Hampton Metts for eighteen years. Together they enjoyed gardening, travel, Hampton’s children and grandchildren, square dancing and their church family at Grace Community Baptist Church in Moncks Corner. Florence lovingly cared for Hampton in his decline until his death in 2010.

Surviving Mrs. Metts are four nephews and a niece who remember her fondly along with the life and memories they shared on the Mims’ farm. In addition to her husband Hampton and her parents, “Dewey” and Annie Mims, Florence was preceded in death by: brother Durant Mims; sisters, Curtis Ann Mims Moses, Dolly Mims Poston, Mary Mims, and Grace Mims Wilson; and three nieces, Lorraine Kropf, Roberta Burrows, and Lois Ann Shaft

     Peter Gaillard Gourdin IV, husband of the late Lois Baker Gourdin, died on July 9, 2020, at Franke at Seaside in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina at the age of 97. Peter was born on March 31, 1923, the first son of Peter Gaillard Gourdin and Ada Bell Brockinton Gourdin, in the original home of his grandparents, Dr. William Virginius Brockinton and Mamie Rush Brockinton in Kingstree, SC.

     At 13 years of age, he attended Porter Military Academy in Charleston, South Carolina for the next four years and graduated in 1940. He attended the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, the University of South Carolina, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy/Kings Point in New York. He served during World War II and sailed merchant ships throughout the world.

     In 1948, Peter married Mary Lois Baker of Chesterfield County, South Carolina. He was predeceased by his wife, his infant son, Peter Gaillard Gourdin V, his brother, William Brockinton Gourdin, and his sister, Virginia Brockinton Gourdin. He is survived by a son, Theodore Gaillard Gourdin, MD (Elizabeth) of Sullivan’s Island, SC and a daughter, Lois Gaillard Gourdin Evans (Marion) of Georgetown, SC.

Lucy Marie Tisdale, 55, died Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at her home.

     Ms. Tisdale was born January 13, 1965, in Bishopville, SC, a daughter of the late William James Mauldin and Lillie Mae Springs Mauldin. She was a graduate of Kingstree Senior High School and was a presser at Royal Dry Cleaners.

     Surviving Ms. Tisdale are : her sister, Betty Mouzon; 2 nieces, Cindy Serrato and Crystal Marlow; 2 nephews, Jason Mouzon and Brian Mouzon; and many great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Lucy was preceded in death by a sister, Diane Mouzon and her son, Michael Eugene Tisdale.
