Mr. Robert
Lawton Arnette, Sr., 79, widower of “Dottie” Dunford Arnette, died Wednesday,
April 2, 2014, at his home in Columbia.
Mr. Arnette
was born August 5, 1934, in Kingstree, a son of the late Victor Lawton
Arnette and Ruth Fitch Arnette. He was a graduate of Lake City High School,
attended Furman, and was a graduate of the University of South Carolina.
Mr. Arnette received his Master’s Degree from LSU. He was a US Army veteran
and was the retired president of The Exchange Bank of Kingstree. Robert
was a former member of the Kingstree Rotary Club and the Williamsburg Academy
Board of Directors, and was a former adjunct professor at Williamsburg
Technical College. He was a member of Belin United Methodist Church and
was a former member of Kingstree United Methodist Church, where he taught
Sunday School for many years.
Surviving
are: 2 sons, Robert L. “Rob” (Myra) Arnette, Jr., of Sumter and Jim (Christy)
Arnette, of Surfside Beach; a daughter D. Marianne Arnette, of Columbia;
grandchildren, Haley, James, & Catherine Arnette; a sister Doris A.
Evans, of Timmonsville; 2 nieces, Elaine McElveen, of Sardis and Lisa Coker,
of Kingstree; and 2 sisters-in-law, Jamie D. Reese and Betsy D. Barnett,
both of Lincolnton, GA.
A memorial service
will be 12:34 PM Saturday, April 5, 2014, in Kingstree United Methodist
Church. The family will receive friends at 11:11 AM Saturday in the Ladies
Parlor of the church. Memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis
Society, 3101 Industrial Drive, Suite 210, Raleigh, NC 27609. Williamsburg
Funeral Home is assisting the Arnette family.
