Thomas Alexander
“Tommy” Blakely, Jr., of Pawleys Island, SC, 88, passed away on October
24, 2013, at Tidelands Community Hospice House in Georgetown, SC.
Tommy was born
March 6. 1925, in Kingstree, SC, a son of the late T.A. Blakely, Sr. and
Rheta Derrick Blakely, of Lane, SC. Tommy served in the US Naval
Amphibious Forces during WWII, stationed in the South Pacific. He was the
owner of C. Tucker's Department Store in Kingstree, served on the Williamsburg
Technical College Board of Directors and was Chairman of the Board of Kingstree
Federal Saving and Loan, past Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars,
Post 6500 and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of Kingstree
United Methodist Church.
Tommy was preceded
in death by his wife of almost 60 years, Sylvia Tucker Blakely and is survived
by: 2 daughters, Myra Blakely and Charlesann Blakely Graham, both of Pawleys
Island; one son, Thomas A. “Tab” Blakely III, of Pawleys Island; 2 grandchildren,
Lee and Blakely Graham; a sister, Mary Florence “Floopie” Geddings, of
Charleston; and a brother, Richard J. “Dickie” Blakely, of Kingstree.
Graveside
funeral services will be 2:30 PM Saturday, October 26, 2013, in Williamsburg
Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Williamsburg Funeral Home
in Kingstree from 1 to 2 PM just prior to the service. In lieu of
flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Tidelands Community
Hospice, 2591 N. Fraser Street, Georgetown, SC 29440 or Kingstree United
Methodist Church, 510 N. Longstreet Street, Kingstree, SC 29556.
