Funeral services for Miss Betty will be 11 AM Friday, March 15, 2019, in Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel, with a burial in Kingstree Memorial Gardens.
Visitation
The family will receive friends from 5PM to 7PM Thursday at Williamsburg Funeral Home.

Betty Jean Sims McConnell, 88, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family Tuesday, March 12, 2019.
Mrs. McConnell was born October 14, 1930, in Kingstree, a daughter of the late James Edward “Jimmy” Sims and Bonnie Hodge Sims. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School and owned and operated Sims Flower Shop for over 60 years. Along with her mother Bonnie, who started the flower shop, “Miss Betty” became a beloved part of Kingstree and surrounding areas. They were called on for every important occasion in the lives of families everywhere. Miss Betty loved working with the flowers and cared for all of her customers, calling each one of us “Dah-lin”.
Surviving Miss Betty are: her sons, Ricky McConnell, Jimbo McConnell, Randy McConnell, and Bobby McConnell; grandchildren, Richard (Mandy) McConnell, and Ray (Brea) McConnell; and a great granddaughter, Everette Ann McConnell. In addition to her parents and her husband Richard H. McConnell, Miss Betty was preceded in death by a sister, Allie Mae Harrington.

MRS. BETTY WILL BE MISSED DEARLY. I WOULD GO TO SHOP JUST TO SEE HER AT TIMES. SHE ALWAYS HAD A SMILE ON HER FACE. SHE ALWLAYS MADE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ARRANGEMENTS…. AND I KNOW THAT SHE IS IN AWE OF THE WONDERFUL FRAGRANT AND BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS ALL AROUND HER IN HEAVEN.
TO HER BOYS… SHE WAS A PROUD MOMMA. SHE WOULD TELL ME TELLS WHEN I WENT TO SEE HER AT THE SHOP.
PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU ALL DURING THIS TIME. REMEMBER THE GOOD TIMES SPENT WITH MRS. BETTY.

Heart broken to hear of the passing of Ms. Betty. She was such a loving and sweet lady. I will miss her calling me “dah’lin”. My prayers for her family.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. One of the most difficult things we have to deal with is the death of a loved one. The Bible promise: “God is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit.” The Bible also says: Throw your burden on God and he will sustain you.” (Psalm 34:18 and 55:22) I hope this message offers comfort in your time of sadness.
A “staple” of Kingstree, Ms. Betty will be sorely missed. Her talent with flowers was God’s gift, as well as her sound work ethic. Condolences to the family.
“Miss Betty” was a jewel! She was always so kind and helpful to me and my children. She was a good neighbor and I will miss talking with her and calling on her with all my flower and plant questions! She always was giving and sharing and she looked after everyone that came by.
“Miss Betty” was a Sweetheart to all those who knew her: kind, loving and caring. Warm thoughts and prayers to all her family during this time.
Miss Betty will surely be missed. She was so accommodating and so nice to talk with. Always enjoyed seeing her.
Miss Betty and Miss Sims were always a part of our lives. Whenever we were sick, they would fix a Coke arrangement for us. I will never forget Miss Betty’s beautiful smile. Condolences to the family

When I would go home to Kingstree, I always enjoyed my visits with her. I completely trusted that when I placed an order with her that it would be beautiful. What a lovely person- she will truly be missed.
Mrs. Betty was one of a kind and will leave a huge hole not only in the lives of her family but in the community as well. Such a sweet, sweet, talented lady whom I will truly miss. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this sad time.
A flower in our little town has passed.But she will always be living and blooming in our hearts and every time we think of her or look into a beautiful flower she will always be there. Will love and miss her .

Just saw this. My heart hurts. Mrs.Betty was the sweetest person in the world. No matter what you need, she had it. I will always remember her for being kind hearted and a pillar of the community. Sorry for your loss.
