Daniel Oneal “Danny” McCrea, 78, husband of the late Mary Winn Ward McCrea, passed away at his home in Kingstree, SC, on Saturday, May 23, 2026, after a life well lived.
Danny was born October 10, 1947, in Kingstree, the son of the late Sinnott Oneal McCrea and Mattie Presley Scott McCrea. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and received his certification in welding. His welding career carried him across several states over the years. He was well known for his Williamsburg County wood cooked whole hog barbecue, a family tradition and recipe that had been passed down for generations. People from all around looked forward to his annual Christmas BBQ. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church.
Danny is survived by: two daughters and their husbands, Wendy and Donald Sims and Maggie and Phillip Harper, all of Kingstree; grandchildren, Danielle and Dexter Bryant of Kingstree, Megan and Warren Anderson of Manning, Caleb Harper, Emma Harper, Carson Sims, and Ben Harper, all of Kingstree; great grandchildren, Mattie, Gracie, Colt and Derry; a nephew, Ronald Bryan Morris, Jr. of Turbeville; and a niece, Chasey (David) Brown of Cheraw. In addition to his parents and his wife Mary Winn, Danny was preceded in death by a daughter, Naomi Louise “Luci” McCrea; sisters, Brenda McCrea Scott and Linda Carolyn McCrea; and nephew Rodney McCrea Morris.
