Funeral services celebrating Dr. Brown’s life will be 11 AM Tuesday, November 27, 2018, in Kingstree Presbyterian Church, with burial in Tisdale Cemetery.

Visitation

Dr. Brown’s family will receive friends in the fellowship hall at Kingstree Presbyterian Church from 10 to 10:45 AM before the service.

Dr. Idalyn Stoll Brown, beloved wife of Carol E. Brown, died suddenly Saturday, November 24, 2018, in Lake City, SC. Idalyn was the daughter of the late Philip Cunningham and Charles McLeod Stoll. Idalyn was a member of Kingstree Presbyterian Church.

Born in Columbia, SC on April 9, 1935, Idalyn soon moved to Kingstree, her father’s native home, and spent her childhood and youth in their home on Academy Street. She was educated in the Kingstree schools and was recognized during her youth for her musical talent.

Idalyn married her high school sweetheart, Carol, on June 1, 1956. During their 62 years of marriage, they shared many adventures and moves due to Carol’s Air Force assignments and career opportunities.

Idalyn earned a PHD in Experimental Psychology from The University of Georgia in Athens, GA, but prior to this, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Coker College, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Salem College, and a Master of Science degree in Psychology from Francis Marion University. Dr. Brown spent the following years evaluating children with brain injuries, lecturing at universities and medical conferences, and publishing articles on brain injury. She worked at The University of Georgia in Athens, GA, Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC and Valley Children’s Hospital in Fresno, CA, and she completed her career in private practice in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Dr. Brown was also a member of MENSA.

Surviving Dr. Brown, in addition to her husband Carol, are her children and grandchildren: Mike (Louise) Brown, of Lake City, and Susan Stoll Brown-Tate, MD, of Louisville, KY; 6 grandchildren, Mike (Jolie) Brown, of Kingstree, Will (Jessie) Brown, of Kingstree, Elizabeth Brown, of Charleston, David Tate, Elizabeth Tate, and Katherine Tate, all of Louisville, KY; 3 great grandchildren, Devanie Brown, Andrew Brown, and Caroline Brown; 2 siblings, Phil Stoll, of Whiteville, NC and Charlene Stoll Hale, of Lexington, SC as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

    With deepest sympathies, we will always remember you, and your lovely smile at our meeting in your office at your office, and your comforting advice in efforts to lift our spirits at the Childrens Hospital ware we met you to help us with your gentle advice that you regularly brought upon so many people who you have mentored all the years of your professional life. I remember you as wise Doctor, calm and uplifting, calming. Dr. Hutchison. Often told us you got to go see her in her new clinic in Arizona. We were on our way.
