Grover was born in Lancaster, South Carolina, on January 3, 1944. He graduated from Greeleyville High School, where he was a known track star. He continued his education at the University of South Carolina, receiving a B.S. degree. Grover married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Jean Wilder, on November 27, 1963. They were happily married for over 57 years.

He held the VP position for Phoenix Medical Technology for 22 years. He was one of the company’s original co-creators, receiving four patents during his time. He became a Southern Baptist Minister and preached for 17 years at Greeleyville Baptist Church and was the Director of Missions of the Williamsburg Baptist Association for 15 years.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his early years and then later, tinkering in his woodshop and making toys for his grandchildren. He was actively involved in his church and loved them dearly like family. After retiring from preaching, he was happy to be worshiping again at Kingstree First Baptist Church.

Grover is survived by his wife, Barbara, two children, Bryan (Tina) and Elizabeth Williams (Lyle), five grandchildren, Tyler, Colyn, Caleb, Grace, and Camlin. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Vander Mixon, nieces and nephews and a host of cousins, and other family and friends. Grover is preceded in death by his parents, James Robert Mixon and Nettie Stacks Mixon; and son, Barry Grover Mixon.

From the time I met your family, you became instant best friends to me. And although many years have passed since I saw you, I think about you all often. Please know that you are all in my prayers.
