Graveside funeral services for Janice will be 3 P.M. Monday, October 19, 2026, in Kingstree Memorial Gardens, 11095 Hemingway Highway, Kingstree, SC.
Janice Burgess Hardy, 84, passed away peacefully Friday, October 16, 2026, at Carlyle Senior Care of Kingstree with family by her side.
Janice was born June 24, 1942, in Kingstree, SC, a daughter of the late Lamar William Burgess, Jr. and Odessa Martin Burgess. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School and worked many years at Baxter Travenol in Kingstree. Janice enjoyed planting flowers, visiting the beach and the mountains and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are: her daughter Teresa “Sissy” (Rodney) Jordan of Sumter, SC; her son, Mike (Gwen) Powell of Kingstree, SC; 4 grandchildren, Amber (Timmy) Vereen, Chase Powell, Hannah (Chandler) Scott, and Burgess Jordan; 2 great grandchildren, Chloe and Tripp Vereen; brothers, Dicky (Olivia) Burgess of Midlothian, VA and Lamar William “Bill” Burgess, III of Kingstree; a sister, Gail (Leon) McKnight of Florence, SC; a brother-in-law, Joe Reaves of Florence, SC; and her best friend, Jamie Fulton of Andrews along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by a sister, Dianne B. Reaves and a sister-in-law, Miriam R. Burgess.
