Janie Yelton Montgomery Catalano, 93, widow of Dr. Edward W. Catalano Sr., died Tuesday, January 26, 2021, in Laurel Crest Retirement Center in West Columbia.

      Mrs. Catalano was born in Eastover, SC on December 2, 1927, a daughter of the late Loran M. and Jincy C. Yelton. She graduated from Lower Richland High School and attended Winthrop College. She was a resident of Laurel Crest Retirement Center, where she had many wonderful friends. She loved and appreciated the staff there. Mrs. Catalano enjoyed reading, playing bridge, swimming, traveling, and was a Pittsburgh Penguin fan. She was a great supporter of numerous charities. Mrs. Catalano was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church in Kingstree.

     In addition to her late husband, Dr. Catalano, Mrs. Janie was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry J. “Noot” Montgomery; brothers, Loran Yelton and Grayson Yelton and her most special sister, Mrs. Louise Yelton  Davis.

    Mrs. Catalano was a caring, loving, generous mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Surviving are her two sons. Henri J. “Don” (Dolly) Montgomery, of Chapin; and Stanton Y. “Stan” (Jane) Montgomery, of Ridgeway; grandchildren, Blake (Anna) Montgomery, Clay (Ashley) Montgomery, Graham (Anna) Montgomery; Ted (Corrie) Owens, and Henry “Monty” (Erica) Owens; great grandchildren, Louise, Ann Fulton, Jay, Betsy, Ava, Chase, Lucy, Josiah, and Liam Montgomery; Logan, Mason, Madison, Emma and Kaitlyn Owens. Also surviving are her eleven Catalano stepchildren and numerous grands and great grands that she loved very much.

     A special thanks to that staff of Laurel Crest Retirement Center, All Seasons Hospice, Dr. Stan McCloy, Dr. Kevin and Grace Baugh, Dr. Robert Callis, Dr. Mickey Beaver and Dr. Lynn Connelly.
