John “Johnny” Bernard Crooks, Jr.,86, beloved husband of Marian Brown Crooks, died Monday, August 17, 2026, at MUSC Health Columbia Medical Center Downtown.
Johnny was born April 29, 1940, in Kingstree, SC, a son of the late John Bernard “J.B.” Crooks, Sr. and Lillie Mae Pendergrass Crooks. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and Atlanta Tech in Atlanta, GA. Johnny had an exceptional mind and could do almost anything he set his mind to. His many talents led him to various careers over the years. He loved the outdoors and that led him to farming, raising chickens, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed technology and being around people, which led him to servicing televisions for community members at Crooks TV Service for over 30 years and Carolina Meat Processors for 25 years. He was a dedicated member of Believer’s Bible Chapel. Johnny accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior as a young adult and had a desire to share Christ with all those he encountered, even until the last hour of his life.
In addition to Marian, his wife of fifty-eight years, Johnny is survived by: three children, Tammy (Doug) Drost of Summerville, SC, John B. “Barney” (Lori) Crooks, III of Decatur, GA, and Jennifer (Rohn) Walker of Kingstree; seven grandchildren, Brittany Walker, Caitlyn (Aaron) Richardson, Roslyn Walker, Kinzleigh Walker, Sarah Drost, Reagan Drost, and John Drost; great grandson, Walker Richardson; and special honorary grandchildren, Danielle Culick and Will McKenzie; two brothers, Carroll (Teresa) Crooks of Anderson, SC and Clyde Crooks of Kingstree. In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Nell Benke and brothers, Wayne Crooks and Kenneth Crooks.
