Mary Ellen Dukes Oliver, 86, wife of the late John Brooks “Jack” Oliver, died peacefully at home Tuesday, September 23, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family after a long illness.
Mary Ellen was born January 16, 1939, in Greeleyville, SC, a daughter of the late Weakus Stokes Dukes and Alice Fannie Timmons Dukes. She was a member of Greeleyville United Methodist Church and was lovingly known as “Granny” to all who knew her. Mary Ellen was a dedicated long-time season ticket holder for the University of South Carolina football and an avid Gamecock fan. She was a graduate of Greeleyville High School and retired from Albany International as shipping manager after 32 years. She worked alongside her husband Jack at Longlands Plantation for 15 years.
Mary Ellen is survived by: 3 daughters, Cheryl Oliver of Greeleyville, Brenda Oliver Ayers of Moncks Corner, and Mandy Wrenn of Greeleyville; 3 grandchildren, Stacey Oliver (Robbie) Mooneyham, Amanda Wrenn, and Josh (Morgan) Ayers; 3 great grandchildren, Mary Brooke Mooneyham, Cade Mooneyham, and Delilah Ayers; a brother, Grady Dukes of Little Mountain; special family friends, Al Rodgers and Mary Footman; and her fur babies Little Bit.and Tom Cat. In addition to her parents and her husband Jack, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her siblings, Wheeler Dukes, James Dukes, Marbeth Cain, Carey Dukes, Azalee Brown and Juanita Thompson.
The Oliver family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice and her caretakers, Mary Footman, Jackie Miller, Vanessa York and Frankie Childers for the loving care given to their mother.
