Mary Wheeler Abrams, 78, wife of the late James Richard “Dick” Abrams, died Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC surrounded by her beloved family.
Mary was born March 5, 1948, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Richard Olin Wheeler and Doris Moore Wheeler. She was a graduate of Williamsburg High School and graduated from the University of South Carolina with honors. Mary retired after many years of teaching at Andrews Elementary School, Andrews Academy and Williamsburg County schools. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary was a faithful member of Spring Gulley Baptist Church.
Mary is survived by: her son, James Richard “Jamey” (YeVonne) Abrams, Jr. of Andrews; her daughter, Mary Elizabeth “Beth” (Jonathan) Pace of Conway; her sister, JoAnn Blakely (Beverly) of Hanahan; her grandchildren, Allison (Josh) Brown, James R. (Abby) Abrams, III, and Russell Pace; and her great grandchildren, Bayleigh, Camden, Georgia, Raelyn, and Ollie. In addition to her parents and her husband Dick, Mary was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Taylor and Joy Lambert.
