Nancy Tisdale Stuckey, 74, wife of the late J. Henry Stuckey, died unexpectedly Thursday, July 9, 2026, at MUSC Health Medical Center Downtown Columbia, surrounded by her beloved family.
Nancy was born on February 27, 1952, in Kingstree, SC, a daughter of the late James Cramer “J.C.” Tisdale and Hattie Strong Tisdale. She was a 1970 graduate of Kingstree High School, received an associates degree from Anderson College, and a bachelor’s degree from USC- Coastal (now Coastal Carolina University) in Conway. Nancy started her career at FermPro in Kingstree before beginning her long career in special education in the schools of Williamsburg County. After she and Henry married and later moved to Columbia, Nancy was a substitute teacher for Richland 2 School District. Nancy was always an adventurous person and displayed that courage by getting her private pilot’s license and flying her friends and colleagues for fun and work. She loved her family and looked forward to any family trip, especially a trip to the beach or the casinos of Cherokee or Atlantic City. Being with her siblings, nephew and nieces, grandnieces and grandnephew, and great grandnieces and grandnephew was always a special time. She was lovingly called “Nanny” by all, even the littlest of them and they were always delighted to see her. Nancy loved her Columbia community and her church, St. David’s Episcopal Church. She was a true animal lover and had several beloved dogs over the years.
Nancy is survived by: her two sisters, Cramer T. (Sam) Clarkson of Kingstree and Gayle T. O’Dell of Greenville, SC; nephew, William B. “Chip” (Angela) O’Dell; nieces, Michelle (Todd) Foster and Emily C. (Charles) Perkins; grandnieces, Hannah Harrison, Taylor P. (Brycen) Dacus, Lara Beth O’Dell, and Haylee Grace Perkins; grandnephew, Will (Allie) O’Dell; great grandnieces Aida and Emmie; and great grandnephew Jed. In addition to her parents and her husband Henry, Nancy was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Ann Tisdale and a brother, Maxwell “Mac” Tisdale.
