Funeral services will be 3 PM Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at Williamsburg Funeral Home, burial with full military honors will be in Midway Evangelical Presbyterian Church

Charlie’s family will greet friends 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Retired Master Sergeant Charlie Eugene Campbell, 90, husband of Winnie Reardon Campbell, died Sunday, May 1, 2022, at his home in Sumter.

Mr. Campbell was born June 7, 1931, in Bulloch County, Georgia, a son of the late Eugene W. Campbell and Anna Lou Simmons Campbell. He was a graduate of Marvin Pittman High School in Georgia and earned associate degrees in welding and machine tooling at Williamsburg Technical College. He retired as a Master Sergeant after 22 years in the US Air Force, where he served in Korea and Vietnam in the Air Police. He retired from SC Department of Transportation after 25 years. Charlie was a great outdoorsman, enjoying both hunting and fishing. He was a NASCAR fan and a fan of dirt track racing. He even worked on the pit crew for Hammond Racing. Charlie was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church. He loved his God, his country, and his family.

Surviving Mr. Campbell, in addition to his wife of 64 years, Winnie, are: a son, Charlie “Chuck” (Eileen) Campbell of Greeleyville; 2 daughters, Vivian (Eddie) Hynes and Andrea Summey, both of Sumter; 3 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; several special nieces and nephews; 2 wonderful caregivers, Lisa and Michelle; and his fur baby Snowflake. In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by a son-in-law, David Summey and siblings, Frank (Sue) Campbell, J.W. (Milre) Campbell, Juanita (Buddy) Pylant, and Fred Campbell.

Funeral services will be 3 PM Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at Williamsburg Funeral Home, burial with full military honors will be in Midway Evangelical Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Charlie’s family will greet friends 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
