Stephen Lane “Steve” Spivey, 80, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 19, 2026, at his home in Manning, SC, leaving behind a legacy of deep devotion to his family and a lifelong love for the beauty of nature.
Steve was born January 8, 1946, in Kingstree, SC, a son of the late John Alford Spivey and Louise Shirer Spivey. A 1964 graduate of Greeleyville High School, he went on to graduate with the historic Citadel Class of 1968, carrying the values of honor and duty throughout his life. Steve gave over thirty years of dedicated service to Georgia Pacific before enjoying a well-earned retirement. He was also a Mason and a member of the Lake City Jaycees.
Beyond his professional life, Steve was a man who had a love for nature. Whether he was casting a line on Lake Okeechobee in Florida, marveling at America’s vast landscapes, or listening to good ole country music, he chased adventure with a quiet appreciation for life. Yet, he found equal joy in simpler moments—living on the farm and sitting peacefully on his back porch at the lake, watching the hummingbirds and enjoying the nature around him.
Above all, Steve was a family man. Nothing brought a bigger smile to his face than his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and he cherished every opportunity to support them in all of their various sports and activities.
Steve is survived by his three children: daughters, Shelley (Edward) Parker of Salters and Shannon (Michael) Lizewski of Irmo; and son, Shaun (Donna) Spivey of Lexington. He was the proud grandfather of Edward (Nicole) Parker, Caleb (Jenny) Parker, John Lizewski, Matthew Lizewski, Christian Spivey, and Bryson Spivey; and the loving great-grandfather of Maelynn Parker, Dallas Parker, and Elizabeth Parker. He also leaves behind two brothers, John Alford “Al” (Nancy) Spivey, Jr. of Hickory, NC, and Berry Ernest “Bunny” (Leslee) Spivey of Salters; several nieces; and a special friend, Diane Graham of Kingstree.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Williamsburg Funeral Home in Kingstree, followed by burial in Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Steve’s family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 PM at the funeral home just prior to the service.

Family: So sorry to hear of your loss. We grew up together as children across the branch from each other. Cousins. Saw him at Relsie’s (my sister) funeral. It was so good to see him. He was a great guy and will certainly be missed. My prayers for all of you as you go through this time of grief. Just think about the good memories. My love to all.
So sorry! Steve and Roy were great friends. Steve was a groomsmen in our wedding and an honorary pallbearer at Roy’s funeral. I know they are having a great reunion!
Sorry to hear about Steve. He was a great friend, teammate and classmate. He will always be remembered as one of the best all around athletes that graduated from Greeleyville High School. He will surely be missed.
God Bless.
So sorry for your loss. Sending prayers and condolences to all of you.
Prayers of peace and comfort during this difficult time.
My heart is heavy hearing of Steve’s passing, when Uncle Carlisle called to tell me yesterday morning. He was one of the cousins closest to my age, and as children, I was introduced to fun adventures, such as frog gigging with him!
Mary Ann and I visited Mama’s house during the summers and I remember other adventures later on while driving Mama’s VW and seeing a person directing cars into a field. Mama said, “just keep driving, it’s just a klan meeting”!
Steve and I could have been twins, both with the Shirer red hair and freckles. He was the closest to having a brother I will ever have. As it goes, life and responsibilities take hold and visits to Lanes were few and far between over the years, but I cherish the memories and those carefree days. So very sad to see you go, Steve.
So sorry to hear of Steve’s passing. We were Citadel classmates in L Company. Steve played on many of our intramural teams and I especially remember him being a prime receiver and catching many of my passes on the L Company football team. I enjoyed his friendship and know he will be sadly missed. Rest in peace Steve.
I am deeply saddened by the news of Steve’s passing! My heart aches for the entire Spivey family and Steve’s friends who are grieving over his loss! May the Lord hold you in his loving arms and grant you his PEACE!
Rest well Mr Steve. It was an honor in getting to know you.

May God’s Blessings be with the Spivey family in their time of sorrow.
I never saw Steve after I graduated from KHS in 1963 but his memory would always come up when high school sports came to mind. He was one of the best athletes I ever competed against, few could win against him, and most important he always won with class and there was always the smile.
I pray for peace for his family and friends as they contend with this loss and we should all understand that each of us can have the kind of impact Steve had on me in the brief encounters we experienced so many decades ago.
Steve and I attended Church together at Pine Grove , attended school together also. His parents were friends with mine. Can remember going to their house so long ago was when his granddad was still living Mr. Berry. Thoughts and prayers to the family during this difficult time.
