Thomas Lee “Tommy” Boyd, III, 78, husband of Martha “Mitzi” Parker Boyd, died Sunday, September 28, 2025, at McLeod Hospice House after a short illness.
Tommy was born December 2, 1946, in Kingstree, SC, the son of the late Thomas Lee “T.L.” Boyd, Jr. and Virginia Britton Boyd. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and received a degree in Forestry from the University of Tennessee. Tommy was a US Air Force veteran and retired from the US Postal Service. He was a faithful and dedicated member of Union Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and was the church pianist for over forty years. He played every Sunday and for innumerable weddings and funerals. Not only was Tommy a talented musician, but he also crafted musical instruments along with furniture. He taught classes at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC, for over twenty years teaching the old Appalachian ways of creating furniture and musical instruments. He focused on Windsor chairs and deacon benches and created treasured heirlooms for his family and helped others do the same. When he wasn’t in his workshop, you could find him in the kitchen cooking southern favorites including the best chicken purlieu and old-fashioned biscuits made with lard to share with family, his church family and friends. Tommy was a generous and talented man, and he enjoyed sharing each of his talents with others.
Surviving Mr. Boyd, in addition to his wife Mitzi, are: his son, C.C. “Trey” Rourk; his daughter, Laura Paige Cason; granddaughter, Harley Delynn Crews; great granddaughter, Delainey Patrice Crews; great grandson, Grayson David Crews; and numerous beloved cousins.

Cooking pork and other wonderful food, riding motorcycles, shrimping at Murrells Inlet……could go on and on. Best of all, when Tommy says ” I’m praying for you, your wife”, anyone in my family in need, I always thought wow, that’s a direct line to The Lord for sure!
