Mrs. Virginia Brockinton Gee, 91, wife of the late Daniel Revell Gee Sr., passed away on July 13, 2023,  in Greenville, SC.

Mrs. Gee was born on July 29, 1931, in Kingstree, SC, a daughter of Virginia Turnell and William Burroughs Brockinton.  A former Miss Kingstree, she was a graduate of Kingstree High School and attended Columbia College.  A music major while attending Columbia College, she returned to Kingstree to marry Dan Gee.   She began her membership in the Kingstree United Methodist Church Choir at age 14 and continued her service until her increasing macular degeneration forced her to retire from the choir in her mid 80s.  Along with her mother, she sang in numerous church cantatas, Christmas programs, weddings, and funerals across the state.

In addition, she enjoyed dancing, reading, playing in both day and night bridge and Tripoley clubs, cross stitching, vacationing at the beach, tutoring elementary children at various schools and volunteering at the church.  She and Dan loved dancing in both their younger days at Pawley’s Island and later in Kingstree as members of the Moose Lodge.  She once said that she liked nothing better than a cup of tea, a good book and a warm blanket.  Spending time with family during the holidays and especially the annual family trips to Garden City were some of her favorite things to do.  She and Dan were very involved in fundraising for Williamsburg Academy.  An avid sports fan, she enjoyed watching golf and tennis on TV and never missed the Wimbledon Championship matches.

In addition to being a homemaker, she worked as a bookkeeper part time for the US Department of Agriculture during numerous tobacco seasons.

Also, the family would like to especially thank Ms. Betsy Gordon and the late Ms. Jean Edwins for their steadfast friendship, love and devotion for so many years as well as Ms. Virginia Ann McIntosh, a dear friend since childhood, that visited with Virginia just five days prior to her death.

Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Revell Gee Sr., her daughter, Lou Ann Gee of Kingstree, SC, and her sister Betty Lou Fowler of Bennettsville, SC.  She is survived by her sons Daniel R. Gee Jr (Nancy) of Wake Forest, NC, William R. Gee (Beth) of Anderson, SC, Charles B. Gee (Linda) of Irmo, SC and Paul T. Gee (Lynn Marie) of Powdersville, SC, as well as her 9 grandchildren:  Taylor (Michael), Kaylan, Daniel, Jordan, Kinley (Wesley), Ryan, Karmen, Sam and Tatum and 2 great grandchildren, 4 nephews and 2 nieces.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, July 16, 2023, at Kingstree United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at 1:15 until time for the service. Burial will follow the funeral service at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, she requested that donations be made to Kingstree United Methodist Church, 510 N. Longstreet Street, Kingstree, SC 29556. Online condolences may be sent to the family on the obituary page at www.WilliamsburgFuneralHome.com

Virginia was a wonderful friend. In addition Virginia was an accomplished soloist and choir member at Kingstree United Methodist Church. It was my honor to have accompanied
Virginia for many solos and choral anthems for many years.
She was a dedicated vocalist whose beautiful voice was with
us until her health brought about her retirement. I am grateful
for the many years I was fortunate to serve with her as organist
and pianist. Upon Virginia’s retirement I missed her contribution
to our music program. A gracious lady and friend. Inga and I send our Deepest Sympathy to Virginia’s family.

  13. Lois Gee (Ginny)

To, Dan, Bill, Charles and Paul,
Yes, Aunt Virginia was so very talented and caring. I remember she called letting me know about daddy and how mama really needed us. She had no way of knowing that plans were in the making to leave my guidance counseling job and my home in Surfside Beach, S.C. to come home. She was relieved. I will always remember her thoughtfulness and concern. You are in my prayers. Love, Ginny
