Virginia “Ginny” Small Tyler, 97, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 2, 2026, following a lengthy illness with dementia.
Ginny was born on September 9, 1929, in Norfolk, Virginia, the daughter of Earl Onal Small and Essie Jeanette Smith Small. Her family relocated to Georgetown, S.C. in 1937, attracted by the new Georgetown Paper Company and later opened Midway Nursery. As the nursery grew, the family added a florist shop. This is where Ginny’s love of flowers and horticulture began. In later years her home and yard on Montgomery was a showplace. Virginia attended school in Georgetown, graduating from Winyah High School in 1947. Ginny married Walter Earl Evans, Sr. who was killed in a train vs auto accident in 1966. Walter and Ginny had Evans Jewelers in Downtown Kingstree. They had one child, Walter Earl Evans, Jr. Ginny later met and married James Linwood Tyler. She and Linwood had a beach home in Pawley’s Island, and they spent a lot of time enjoying the Pawleys area and the beach. They were also members of the Kingstree Moose Lodge, and Ginny enjoyed many a hand of Bridge there. She was his beloved wife for 35 years until his death in 2005. She and her son, Walter, continued to make their home in Kingstree until her passing.
In addition to her parents and her husbands, Ginny was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Eugene (Dorothy) Small, Sr., and her sister-in-law, Sybil Parks Small. She is survived by her beloved son, Walter Earl Evans, Jr., her brother, Earl Lee Small, Sr. and countless nieces and nephews.
