Thomas Lee “T.L.” Boyd, Jr., 99, widower of Virginia Britton Boyd, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2019, at his home.
Mr. Boyd was born January 30, 1920, in Trio, SC, a son of the late Thomas Lee and Blumha Loryea Boyd. He was a graduate of Andrews High School and was a decorated US Army veteran, having served in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, and Rhineland during WWII. Mr. T.L. operated a country store in Salters for many years and during that time he also farmed and delivered the mail on surrounding rural routes. He was still an active and dedicated member of Union Presbyterian, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years and was an Elder Emeritus. He was a member of American Legion Post 8, the VFW, Post 6500, and Masonic Lodge 46 AFM.
Surviving are: his son, Thomas Lee (Mitzi) Boyd, III, of Salters; grandson, Trey Rourk of Kingstree; granddaughter, Laura Paige Cason of Murrells Inlet; great granddaughter, Harley DeLynn Rourk; sister-in-law, Mona R. Boyd; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife Virginia, Mr. T.L. was preceded in death by his siblings, Loryea L. (Romie) Boyd, Isaac M. Boyd, Margarite B. (Rema) Taylor, James S. (Reba) Boyd, Willa Mae B. (Ansel) Marshall, Blumha B. (Arlo) Mims, Kenneth E. Boyd, Alton H. Boyd, and Herbert J. (Loretta) Boyd.

Paul Lee Moulton, 91, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 23, 2019, at his home in Calabash, NC.
Mr. Moulton was born August 15, 1928, in Waltham, MA, a son of the late Lee Leathbridge Moulton and Roxie E. Kierstead Moulton. He attended Middlesex County schools and enlisted in the Army in October 1946. Over his 23 ½ years in the Army, he served in the Cavalry and the Signal Corps. His first deployment was to Tokyo, Japan during the Occupation after WWII. Following that tour, PFC Moulton was stationed in Fort Sill, OK for training as a Signal Corps Photographer and Laboratory Technician, a career where he excelled and remained throughout his service. He was promoted to Sergeant during his time in Ft Sill. He furthered his training in Motion Picture Photographer in Long Island City, NY, travelling to Korea to video various United Nations Units during combat. Transferred to Fort Eustis, VA, he made training films for The Transportation Center. In 1952, assigned to Korea, he was promoted to Sergeant First Class, and covered combat and The Truce Talks at Pan Mon Jon and the Signing of the cease fire and prisoner exchange. From 1954 to 1961, Sgt 1st Class Moulton was stationed at Army Pictorial Center at Long Island City, NY as a Motion Picture Production Cameraman, making training and information films at various locations in the USA, Alaska, The Artic and Sub Artic, Germany, Panama, and Lebanon. He was the First Cameraman on many ‘Big Picture’ TV Films and was awarded a “Certificate of Achievement” in May of 1961. In following years, he received other significant awards and medals, specifically “The Army Commendation Medal” in 1962, the second “Army Commendation Medal” in 1966, the “Air Medal” in 1967, and the “Meritorious Service Medal” before retiring from active military service in 1970. During those years of 1961 through 1970, he served at Ft. Shafter, Hawaii and The Pentagon along with the Pictorial Center in NY, covering combat operations in Viet Nam from the DMZ in the North to Special Forces Operations in the Mekong Delta. After retirement from active duty, he continued his photography at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research as a civilian medical research motion picture cameraman, filming various surgical procedures and receiving awards there also. In 1973, Mr. Moulton transitioned to free lance television news cameraman, covering the White House, US Congress, State Dept, The Pentagon, and other various government agencies and then in 1977, he took a job with Storer Broadcasting Company/ Gillette Communications in Washington DC, covering the same areas along with the inaugurations of many presidents, and Republican and Democratic conventions. He retired in 1991 and moved to Calabash, NC in 2004. He loved his family and kept up with every one of them. He would visit them and encourage them to visit him, taking his nieces and nephews on special tours while sharing his life with them. His friendships meant a lot to him also. He continued to stay in touch with his Army friends and DASPO comrades following his retirement and when he moved to Calabash, he made new friends who helped him in so many ways.
Surviving Mr. Moulton are: three treasured sisters, Shirley M. Connolly, from Florida, Beverly C. Richardson of New Hampshire, and Marilyn E. Dunn, of Kingstree, SC; many beloved nieces and nephews including Candyce Dunn McCrea, of Kingstree; many great nieces and great nephews and several great great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George A. Moulton and two sisters, Eileen V. Droz and Gloria L. Marchetti.

Betty Elaine Frierson DeRose, 77, of Kingstree, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 19, 2019.
Betty was born on February 20, 1942, in Kingstree, SC, a daughter of the late Edward Eugene and Mary Ellen Batts Frierson. She graduated from Kingstree High School, class of 1960 and was retired from Williamsburg County DOT. Betty was an active member of St. Ann Catholic Church of Kingstree. She loved her church and faith and showed it by giving her time, serving others and loving generously.
Betty is survived by her close and loving friends, Jim McKnight, Mary Lynn Buddin, Cindy Thigpen, Rose Allsbrook, and cousins, Sue Barnett, Beth Beach, Julias Dickert, Lou Thomas, Terry Frierson, Robert Frierson and Dr. Richard Frierson. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Edward Eugene Frierson, Jr.
Betty loved all of God’s creatures, especially her kitty cats and enjoyed laughing and seeing other’s laugh. She was the “Sunshine” at all her family gatherings. Everyone who knew Betty, loved her, she will be sorely missed.

Johnnie Ruth Dennis Baylor, 94, widow of Atwood M. Baylor, died Sunday, November 17, 2019, in Williamsburg Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Baylor was born December 25, 1924, in Kingstree, a daughter of the late John W. and Ruth McElveen Dennis. Mrs. Johnnie Ruth was not just a homemaker, but the center of her family, her community, and her church. She was the first to operate a bean and pea sheller for the Kingstree folks and beyond. She did this for 15 years, sharing her love for people and good fresh vegetables with each customer. Mrs. Johnnie Ruth was the last living charter member of Second Baptist Church.
Surviving are: her daughter, Kathy Baylor (Francis) Godwin; grandson, Timothy (Marla) Godwin; granddaughter, Katelyn Godwin, all of Kingstree; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Johnnie Ruth was preceded in death by her son, Larry W. Baylor and a sister Nadine D. Greenlee.

Marie Tindal Sauls, 85, wife of H.B. Sauls, died Friday, November 15 2019, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Sauls was born April 28, 1934, in Grays, SC, a daughter of the late George Tindal and Alice Tuten Tindal Smith. She was a member of Kingstree Second Baptist Church. Mrs. Sauls enjoyed crafts, sewing, camping and fishing.
In addition to her husband, H.B., Mrs. Sauls is survived by: her children, Randy (Pam) Sauls, of Fort Mill, SC, Dale (Kathy) Sauls, of Rock Hill, SC, Debi (James) Porter, of Cades, Cathy Quarles, of Kingstree, Nancy (Jamie) Brown , of Cleveland, GA, and Kenny (Flossie) Sauls, of Lake City; 17 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild.
Mrs. Sauls was preceded in death by her parents and step father Wilford Smith; a son, Greg Sauls; her siblings, Esther Tindal, Oliver Tindal and Heyward Tindal; 2 grandchildren, Jamie Porter and Tyler Evans; and 3 great grandchildren, DJ, Peyten and Gabriel.

Mary Elizabeth Floyd, 74, widow of Charles W. Floyd, died peacefully at MUSC in Charleston, SC on Wednesday, October 30, 2019.
Mrs. Floyd was born November 6, 1944, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Samuel Andrew “S.A.” Floyd and Cora Mae Powell Floyd. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School and was employed by Warsaw Manufacturing, later Oxford Industries, for thirty years, serving as a supervisor for many of those years. She was a member of Kingstree Church of God.
Surviving are: her daughter, Lisa Floyd (Andy) McCrea of Kingstree; her son, Sam (Maggie) Floyd of Georgetown; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, David L. Floyd of New Zion and Alpha Floyd of Hartsville. In addition to her parents and her husband Charles, Mary was preceded in death by a son, Charles Floyd, Jr., a brother, Jack Floyd, and a sister, Linda McGee.

Earl David Mann, age 73, of Murrells Inlet, SC, passed away on October 26, 2019, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Earl was born in Baxley, GA on August 14, 1946, a son of the late Rosie Peacock Mann and Byron Mann. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served in Korea from 1965 to 1967. Earl made a living as the owner of Mann’s Appliance Repair in Kingstree, SC. He was an outdoorsman who loved both fishing and hunting. Loved by all who met him, Earl made an impact on so many lives. The memories of his outspoken, humorous nature will always remain in the hearts of those he touched.
Surviving are: his wife, Debra B. Mann, of Murrells Inlet; his daughter, Kristy Mann and son, Ryan Mann both of Murrells Inlet; son, Shane Mann of Gatlinburg, Tennessee; brother, Bill Mann of Baxley, GA; 2 sisters, Merle Hildebrand of Jacksonville, FL and Dona Batty of Lake Wells, FL; 2 grandchildren, Isaiah Richardson of Murrells Inlet and David “Bubba” Mann, Jr. of Alma, GA; and a special friend, Patrick Patterson. He was preceded in death by his son, David Mann, sister, Winifred Varnadore, brother, Clayton Mann, and a special sister-in-law, Lisa Collier.

Maude Brannon Montgomery died peacefully in her home with family at her side on Sunday, October 20, 2019. She was born October 20, 1926, in Hardeeville, SC, daughter of George and Ruth Brannon. After graduating from Hardeeville High School, she attended the Roper Hospital School of Nursing in Charleston where she met her future husband, James Claffy Montgomery, who was then a medical student at Medical College of South Carolina (now MUSC).
They moved to Kingstree in 1952 where her husband practiced medicine and she devoted her life to her family. She raised five children and was devoted to her grandchildren as well.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, George Rickenbaker Montgomery. She is survived by four of her children, James C. Montgomery, Jr. (Susan) of Murrells Inlet, Nancy M. Jarrett (Tony) of Kingstree, Elizabeth R. Montgomery of Myrtle Beach, and Lemuel Benton Montgomery (Rebecca) of Murrells Inlet as well as 7 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

On October 18, 2019, Mrs. Bobbie Jean Martin Stone changed her permanent address as she peacefully left this earthy life and awoke in her Heavenly home. Mrs. Stone was born April 14, 1938, to the late Van Buren and Gertie Phipps Martin in Cades, SC. She was married for 60 years to McIver “Red” Stone, who left us in 2016. She worked at Warsaw Manufacturing, babysat children in her home and ministered to too many to count at the Ron McNair and Kingstree Nursing Homes. She was a member of Kingstree Church of God where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She never met a stranger no matter where she went and was always willing to talk, share her testimony, pray and sing. If you were with her, you should be prepared too, because at any point you would have to share (no matter how nervous you were). She loved her family dearly and filled their days with unconditional love and laughter. She was proud of each of them, always sharing their accomplishments and stories. She was the family historian and kept all of the genealogical records.
She leaves the following family members to cherish her memory: children, Randy (Cathy)Stone and Sandy (Leland) Powell; grandchildren, Tonya (Russell) Yarborough, Jason (Mary Ann) Stone, Matthew (Cori) Stone, Amanda (Matt) Taylor, LeAnne Duckett (Jeremiah Burdette) and Justin Powell (Gina McKenzie); great-grandchildren, Joshua (Casey) Stone, Joy, Hannah and Phoebe Yarborough, Cassandra (Zachary) McDonald, Nicky (Britney) Richardson Jr., Patrick (Shelby) Richardson, Angel (Jonathan) Flagler, Hayden and Harrison Stone, Andrew, Kaelin, and Zachary Talbert, Nathan Taylor, Connor Duckett, Katelyn Powell and Mack McKenzie; and great-great grandchildren, Ethan Smith, Holden, Elliott, Colton and Shalynn Richardson, Cassidy and Morgan Flagler. She also has many nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends and a special sister-in-law, Laura Mae Martin who will miss her dearly. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Stone was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Rene Stone, and all siblings.

Annie Barfield Johnson, 85, widow of Laurie Gary Johnson, passed away Friday, September 27, 2019, at MUSC Florence.
Mrs. Annie was born in Lane, SC on July 30, 1934, a daughter of the late Henry and Leila Harington Barfield. She was a school teacher for 34 years, having taught at Lane Elementary, Greeleyville, St. Mark Elementary and D.P. Cooper. Mrs. Annie was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, and was involved in WIC at the church. She loved to shop.
Surviving Mrs. Annie are: five sons, Gary (Tecey) Johnson, of Columbia, Wayne (Debbie) Johnson, of Manning, and Jimmy “J.J.” (Susan) Johnson, Ronnie (Gayle) Johnson, and Dennis (Pam) Johnson, all of Salters; a brother, Charlie Barfield, of Charleston; 16 Grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.

Mr. Eugene “Gene” Vernon Black, Jr., 81, husband of Eva James Black, died Friday, September 20, 2019, at MUSC Cedar Tower in Florence.
Mr. Black was born July7, 1938, in Charleston, a son of the late Eugene Vernon and Louise Black, Sr. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and was a US Air Force veteran. Gene owned and operated at Black’s Service Center for 57 years and was a business man in Kingstree for almost 60 years. He enjoyed bass fishing, working in his yard and decorating for Christmas. Gene loved his wife, kids, and his dog Precious. He was a member of Kingstree Masonic Lodge and Kingstree VFW.
Surviving Mr. Black, in addition to his wife Eva, are: his children, Eugene V. “Vern” (Gwen) Black III, of Socastee, William W. “Bill” (Debbie) Black, of Longs, Retha “Lana” B. (Chuck) Pinion, of Lake City, and Laura Gail (James) Morris, of Timmonsville; a step daughter, Angela Hancock; 14 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Bryan Black, a granddaughter, Carolyn Gail “CG” Osborne, and a sister, Barbara Cockfield.

Mr. Harry Marcus Cannon, 81, husband of Patsy Maynor Cannon, died at home Friday, September 20, 2019, after a long illness.
Mr. Cannon was born February 12, 1938, in Georgetown, a son of the late William Albert Cannon and Josephine Medlin Cannon. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and was a US Air Force veteran. Harry worked at Kingstree Manufacturing (Milliken) for almost 50 years and was a member of Union Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
Surviving Mr. Cannon, in addition to his wife Patsy, are: his daughter, Lisa Cannon of Salters; sisters, Lois Cannon Braxton and Brenda C. Mrs. Shirley Ferguson Hanna, 92, widow of William Doward Hanna, died Sunday, September 15, 2019, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence.
Mrs. Hanna was born in Carlisle, England, a daughter of the late Robert Hewitt and Eleanor Hodgson Ferguson. She attended school in England and was a Customer Control Manager for Colonial Rubber. Mrs. Shirley was a member of Kingstree United Methodist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Hanna, are: her children, Deborah G. Hanna, of Effingham, Donna F. Hanna, of Myrtle Beach, and D. Mrs. Daisy Mae Geddings Mouzon, 66, wife of Murdock Mouzon, died Saturday, September 14, 2019, at home after a long illness.
Mrs. Mouzon was born October 12, 1952, in Sumter, SC, a daughter of the late Harmon Ezra and Myrtle Elizabeth Irick Geddings. She was a graduate of Sumter County schools and was a bookkeeper. Daisy was a devoted, fun-loving mother and grandmother who always gave her time and her heart. She was a faithful church member who loved the Lord and taught her children the importance of following His word and worshipping Him.

Mr. Ossie Purdis Gause, 85, widower of Linnie Mae Powell Gause, died Tuesday, September 10, 2019, in McLeod Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Gause was born September 26, 1933, in Kingstree, a son of the late Clyde Gause and Josie Carraway Gause. He was retired from Santee Electric Cooperative after 46 years of service. Mr. Gause was a retired minister of the Pentecostal Church having served at Hanna’s Chapel, Quimby, and Greeleyville churches. He was a member of Kingstree Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Surviving Mr. Gause are his son, Purdis Gause of Summerton, SC and two brothers, Thomas Gause of Virginia and Barney Gause of Kingstree. In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Gause was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.

Dr. Harry Wells Floyd, 81, husband of Nancy Haselden Floyd, died Monday, September 9, 2019, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital.
Dr. Floyd was born in Olanta, SC on December 21, 1937, a son of the late Harry Pate and Alyce Willoughby Floyd. He was a 1955 graduate of Olanta High School and received a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of SC in 1959. He served in the SC Air National Guard for one year and the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey for two years. He then entered the Medical College of SC and graduated in 1968. Dr. Floyd did his two year residency at the Medical College of SC specializing in internal medicine. He began his practice in Kingstree on July 13, 1970, specializing in family medicine, obstetrics, and orthopaedics. Dr. Floyd delivered over 1500 babies. He served on the Williamsburg Regional Hospital Board of Trustees for over 38 years and was a member of the Medical University of SC Board of Visitors for many years. He was retired from his family practice, Williamsburg Medical Associates. Dr. Floyd was a highly respected community leader and a dedicated medical professional. He was a compassionate, caring doctor who was loved by his patients and the community as a whole. The Town of Kingstree honored him on April 19, 2010, by designating that day “Dr. Harry W. Floyd Day”. That same month, Senator Yancey McGill introduced into the SC Senate a resolution “to congratulate Kingstree’s Dr. Harry W. Floyd upon the occasion of his retirement, to commend him for his many years of dedicated service as a medical professional, and to wish him much happiness and fulfillment in all his future endeavors.” Dr. Floyd was a member of First Baptist Church in Kingstree. He enjoyed fishing and rod building when he wasn’t taking care of others.
Surviving Dr. Floyd, in addition to his wife Nancy, are: a daughter, Geri Grier (Rhett) Garner of Florence; two sons, Stephen Wells (Jennifer) Floyd of Hanahan and David Thomas (Maggie) Floyd of Florence; and 4 grandchildren, Kymber Legg, Samuel Floyd, William Floyd, and Harry Wells Floyd.

Joseph “Joe” Reid Faulk passed away Friday, August 30, 2019, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC.
Joe was born May 4, 1960, in Chattanooga, TN, the son of Marian Duke Faulk and the late Hadley Reid Faulk, of Kingstree, SC. He graduated from Peachtree High School in Atlanta, GA and attended Middle Tennessee State University and the University of Tennessee. Joe was an active member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and attended the Breian Sunday School class.
He is survived by: two daughters, Katie and Martha Carrie of Atlanta, GA; sister, Lynn Faulk (Ron) Harris of Houston, TX; and his mother Marian Duke Faulk of Kingstree, SC.

Mr. Christopher “Chris” G. Osborne, 60, husband of Rosie Osborne, died suddenly Saturday, August 24, 2019, in Myrtle Beach.
Chris was born August 27, 1958, in Kingstree, a son of the late Harry J. and Barbara Timmons Osborne. Chris graduated from Williamsburg Academy and attended Francis Marion University. He was the owner of Grays Used Cars, Inc. and was currently working as general manager at 52 Auto Parts and Sales, LLC.
For over 39 years, Chris was a member of the Inglesby #267 AFM Masonic Lodge. He was a Past Master 12 times, a past secretary, and was currently serving as treasurer. His love of the Masonic Lodge and his love of the game of golf led him to spearhead the Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser.
Chris’ leadership skills extended well beyond the Masonic Lodge. In 2013, he was presented the HomeTown Township Award from the Town of Kingstree. In 2017, he was honored with the key to the Town of Kingstree for his dedication to the community and his positive impact on the youth in the community.
Chris was an avid stock car driver. He began his racing career in 1988 at the Sumter Motor Speedway and soon moved to the asphalt at Florence I95 Speedway. He took the Black “00” to the winner’s circle over 200 times and won ten track championships. In 1989, he was awarded the most popular driver.
Anyone who knows Chris knows he loved good southern, vinegar based barbecue. He was a member of the South Carolina Barbecue Association and was a certified judge. In October, he could be found organizing and directing the Kingstree Pig Pickin’.
In his spare time, he coached small fry tackle division for Clarendon County Football League and also coached Dixie Youth baseball for the Kingstree Rec Department.
He served on the Pastor Parish Relationship Committee at Greeleyville United Methodist Church where he was a member.
Chris’ legacy lives on through the lives of his beloved wife of 41 years, Rosie Osborne of Salters; his two cherished daughters, Brandie Hayes (Nick) of Florence and Kristen Williams (Lilton) of Salters; his treasured grandchildren Blane and Harrison Hayes of Florence and Kaylee and Braydon Caulder of Salters; two step-grandchildren Evan and Addison Williams of North Carolina; and his biggest supporter, his brother, Chuck Osborne (Rachel) of Jacksonville, Florida.

Hazel Ann Tisdale, 69, passed away Monday, August 12, 2019 at the McCall Hospice House of Greenville.
Born in Kingstree, SC, May 24, 1950, she was a daughter of the late JC & Hattie Strong Tisdale. She was a graduate of Lander University and received her Master’s Degree from Clemson University. She was a retired educator having taught in the public school system of South Carolina for over 41 years. Ms. Tisdale attended Simpsonville United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three sisters, Crama Clarkson and husband Sam of Kingstree, Gayle O’Dell of Greenville and Nancy Stuckey of Columbia; nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews, Chip O’Dell (Angela), Michelle Foster (Todd), Emily Perkins (Charles), Hannah Harrison, Will O’Dell, Taylor Perkins, Lara O’Dell and Haylee Grace Perkins. She was predeceased by a brother, Mac Tisdale.

Rev. Victor E. Smith, 74 of Irmo, SC entered into the presence of the Lord on August 6, 2019, at his home with his loving wife, Rev. Ruth Lenn Lambert-Smith by his side. Victor was born on April 5, 1945, in Williamsburg County, SC to the late Rev. Henry Ervin “Doc” Smith and Rev. Bertha Mae (Lane) Smith.
Victor and Ruth were married for almost 11 joy-filled months and were very much in love. Ruth supported Victor in his role of pastoral ministry as the SC District Superintendent of the Assemblies of God and they were together constantly sharing Christ’s love in so many beautiful ways including loving their families extravagantly. Most notably, they were committed to their 15 beautiful, handsome and cherished grandchildren and were so faithful in spending time with them as evidence of their love.
Victor was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Sylvia Nell Smith. They did everything together during that time! They raised three loving sons, Rev. Justin Smith (Angela), Camron Smith (Andi) and Ryan Smith (Katie) all of Irmo, SC and also were blessed to love and nurture their 10 grandchildren. Victor is also survived by his sisters, Margie Gray, and Margaret Burrows; sisters–in-love, Betsy Smith and Carolyn Humphrey. Victor was preceded in death by his brothers, Lewis Smith and Lorraine Humphrey; sister, Rev. Joye Bowman and her husband, Ernest; brother-in-love, Gene Gray.
