Betty Jane Parnell Eaddy, 78, widow of Jerry Eaddy, died peacefully at home surrounded by family Sunday, October 24, 2021.

      Mrs. Eaddy was born March 14, 1943, in Florence County, a daughter of the late Dick and Evelyn Creel Parnell. She was a graduate of Johnsonville High School and was a faithful member of Kingstree Second Baptist Church.

     Surviving Mrs. Eaddy are: her son, J.J. (Becky Parrott) Eaddy; her daughter, Sherri (Scott) Cook, 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and very special friend, Murray McCrea. In addition to her parents and her husband Jerry, Betty was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Eaddy and Letha Mae Tedder, and granddaughter Bailey “Bayy” Eaddy.

Graham Ronald “Ron” McClure , 78, widower of Lorena Tiller McClure, died Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC.

Mr. McClure was born June 4, 1943, in Lumberton, NC, a son of the late Graham Edgar McClure and Nelva Louise Tatum McClure.

Ron married Lorena Tiller in 1967 and graduated from Wofford in 1970, the couple moving to Kingstree that same year. He was first employed by Baxter Laboratories and then by USDA Farm Service Agency in Kingstree until becoming disabled in 1996.

He loved Boykin Spaniels and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ron and Rena were both members of the Kingstree Presbyterian Church

Surviving Mr. McClure are: his chosen daughter, Olivia Brown (Robert) McClary of Kingstree and a cousin, Paul Jones Jr of Elizabeth City, North Carolina. In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his young son, Graham “Gray” Ronald McClure and his wife Rena.

David “Dave” Harry Johnson, 69, died at home Sunday, October 10, 2021.

   Mr. Johnson was born February 22, 1952, in Florence, SC, a son of the late Otis Johnson and Elizabeth “Betsy” Hughes Johnson. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and worked at Wellman Industries in the maintenance department for many years. Dave enjoyed fishing, playing golf, and playing his guitars.

   Surviving Mr. Johnson are his son, Daniel (Brittany Stone) Johnson of New Zion; his daughter, Heather (Jeffrey) McIntyre of Millington, NJ; and five grandchildren, Connor and Nathan McIntyre and Landon, Riley, and Daisy Johnson.

James Hubert McClary, 77, widower of Paulette Floyd McClary, died Friday, October 8, 2021, at home surrounded by his family.

Mr. McClary was born July 31, 1944, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Workman McClary and Beulah Ridgeway McClary. He was retired from Farmers Telephone Cooperative. Mr. McClary was a member of Black River Horseman’s Association and Kingstree Church of God.

Surviving Mr. McClary are: two sons, James Glenn (Tina) McClary and Ebb Gregory “Gregg” (Jessica) McClary; four grandchildren, Joshua (Casey) Stone, Kandace (Blake) Player, Peyton Thompson McClary, and Hunter McClary; 2 great grandchildren, Dustin and Lexi; and 2 sisters, Ann Todd and Toni Hanna. In addition to his parents and his wife Paulette, Hubert was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Elvin McClary, George McClary, Gene “Cheeta” McClary and Freeland McClary and a sister, Blanche Tillman.

Ina Smith Miles, 89, widow of Willard Lavern Miles, died Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at the Heritage Home of Florence.

   Mrs. Miles was born August 22, 1932, in Cades, a daughter of the late Boyd M. and Daisy Evans Smith. She attended Williamsburg County schools and Francis Marion University. She and her husband owned and operated W.L. Miles Grocery store in Kingstree for many years. Mrs. Miles was an accomplished writer, a columnist for the Kingstree News, and authored and published 2 books of her poetry. She was a longtime member of Kingstree First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and led Bible studies and prayer groups.

   Surviving Mrs. Ina are: her children Alton L. (Saundra) Miles of Kingstree, Judy M. (Grover) Windham of Florence, and Kelsey M. (Chris) McGill of Kingstree; her grandchildren, Deanna M. Moore, Ryan Miles, Rodney Miles, Evan Timmons and Erin Timmons; and several great grandchildren.

   In addition to her parents and her husband Lavern, Ina was preceded in death by her siblings, Wesley Smith, Delma (Wilson) Brown, John (Eunice) Smith, Virginia (Marvin) McCutcheon, Garland “Bubber” (Sue) Smith, and Lily (Lloyd) Harden.

Lorena “Rena” Tiller McClure, 78, wife of  Graham Ronald “Ron” McClure, died Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC.

Mrs. McClure was born July 12, 1943, in North Charleston, SC, a daughter of the late Charles Emmett Tiller and Juanita Aileen Nicely Tiller. She was a graduate of Rice Business College in Charleston and retired as purchasing agent from Farmers Telephone Cooperative after 31 years.

Rena was a member of Kingstree Presbyterian Church.

Surviving Mrs. McClure, in addition to her husband Ron, are: her chosen daughter, Olivia Brown (Robert) McClary of Kingstree; a sister, several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Rena was preceded in death by their young son, Graham “Gray” Ronald McClure II.

Floyd Albert Lewis, 90, husband of Barbara Thomas Lewis, died Friday, September 24, 2021, at MUSC Florence.

Mr. Lewis was born May 22, 1931, in Madison County, NC, a son of the late Lloyd Everett Lewis and Alpha Gosnell. Floyd served in the United States Air Force, retired from Santee Electric Cooperative after 31 years and ran the Huddle House restaurants in Lake City and Kingstree for several years. He was a member of the Executive Board at Great Commission Ministries for 13 years, taught Sunday school and assisted in other areas of the church for many years. To know him was to love him.

Surviving Mr. Lewis, in addition to his wife Barbara, are: daughter, Pam (Jeff) Tisdale of Kingstree; a daughter-in-law, Jean Lewis, of Maumelle, Arkansas; Two step-children, Carmie (Carolyn) Thomas, of Florence and Gloria (Marion) Welch, of Sumter; Six grandchildren, Kim Griffin, of Westminster, SC, Olivia (Jeff) Pollard, of Hawaii, Bruce (Jenny) Lewis, of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, April Tisdale (Bran), Reba Thomas, and Carmie Thomas; Two brothers, Jetter Lewis, of Fairview, NC, and Eugene Lewis, of Winston-Salem, NC; four sisters, Helen Lawson, of Kernersville, Ruth Ann Lewis, of Marshall, NC, Nona (Charles) Titmus, of Morristown, TN and Brenda Cantrell, of Mars Hill, NC; special daughter, Debra Lloyd; 7 great grandchildren, Matthew Rogers, Bentley Griffin, Isabella Lewis and Everette Lewis, Braelyn, Lily and Toby.

In addition to his parents, Floyd was preceded in death by his first wife of 56 years, Barbara Shirer Lewis; son, Charles Everette Lewis; 3 sisters, Hettie Lou Lewis, Betty Lou Lewis and Carolyn Lewis.

      Carroll McBride Tisdale, 83, husband of Patricia Eaddy Tisdale, died Friday, September 24, 2021, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital.

      Mr. Tisdale was born March 6, 1938, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Oliver and Thelma Tisdale. Carroll was a farmer, served in the SC National Guard,  and retired as a warden after 35 years with the SC Forestry Commission. He was a member of Bryant Hunting Club and Millwood Methodist Church.

     Surviving Mr. Tisdale, in addition to his wife Patricia, are: 2 sons, Stacey (Sheila) Tisdale and Rodney Tisdale, both of Kingstree; a daughter, Hope Tisdale, of Kingstree; 5 grandchildren, Grace Welch, Austin Welch, Joel Welch, Kimberly Marlow and Abby Marlow; and 1 great granddaughter, Ansley Braxton. In addition to his parents, Carroll was preceded in death by his brothers, Olin Tisdale, Billy Tisdale, and Barton Tisdale.

      Laura Ridgeway Britton, 90, widow of William L. Britton, Sr., died Friday January 29, 2021, at her daughter’s residence in Summerville.

      Mrs. Britton was born November 25, 1930, in Manning, a daughter of the late Whitefred and Alice Haley Ridgeway. She was a graduate of Manning High School and retired after 30 years at Baxter/Travenol in Kingstree. Mrs. Britton loved to cook, especially chocolate cakes, work in her yard, and dearly loved her grandchildren. She was a faithful member of Union Presbyterian Church.

     Surviving Mrs. Britton are: her children, Will (Michelle) Britton of Evans, GA., Steve Britton of Greenville, and Ginny B. (Donnie) Gamble of Summerville; her grandchildren, Reagan (Ben) Blevins of Warner Robbins, GA, Laura Kate Gamble of Greenville, Ben Gamble of Greenville; her sister, Christine (J.D.) Daniels of Manning; and numerous nieces and nephews.

     The family would like to thank Joseph Dotts, Jody Britton, and Virginia Way for their many acts of kindness during Laura’s last few years in Salters.

Lavirgin “Virge” Burgess Harrington, 97, died Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Tidelands Waccamaw Hospital, Murrells Inlet. Ms. Harrington was born in Kingstree, SC on October 10, 1923, a daughter of the late William Eugene Burgess, Sr. and Janie Allene Epps Burgess.  She grew up on her parent’s farm in Williamsburg County and graduated from Kingstree High School in 1941.

Ms. Harrington began her 39 year career with the Williamsburg County ASCS (Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service) office in 1944, moving to the Georgetown County ASCS office in 1947, and then retiring in 1983.  During her time at the ASCS office she held several positions, worked with various farm programs, and received numerous awards and certificates for her outstanding service.  Most important to her were the many lifelong friends she made through her work. Ms. Harrington was a member of the Georgetown Presbyterian Church and attended the Lela Ford Sunday School Class and the Inez Strait Circle group.  She was also a member of the Busy Bees Quilting Club.

She was predeceased by her siblings: Janie B. Johnson, W.E. Burgess, Jr., Charles S. Burgess, and G. Robert “Bobby” Burgess.  She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and their families who all adored her.  She was known to us as “Aunt Virge” and she will be greatly missed. Services will be two o’clock Wednesday, September 15, 2021, graveside at the Epps Cemetery in Kingstree, SC. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Bill Puckett.  Burial will be under the direction of the Williamsburg Funeral Home of Kingstree and the Graham Funeral Home of Georgetown. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Georgetown Presbyterian Church, 558 Black River Rd., Georgetown, SC 29440.

Patricia McCants Conyers, 76, wife of Jimmy Conyers, passed away Tuesday September 7th, 2021 at home surrounded by family.

Mrs. Conyers was born August 27, 1945, in Kingstree, SC, daughter of the late Walter Leslie McCants and Kathleen Easler McCants. She graduated from Kingstree High School and worked in medical records at Williamsburg Regional Hospital until retirement. Mrs. Conyers was a member of Mt Vernon United Methodist Church and enjoyed fishing and boating.

Surviving Mrs. Patricia are; husband James E. “Jimmy” Conyers of Manning, son Terrell (Sandra) Prosser of Kingstree,  a sister Elease (Johnny) Radcliffe of Manning, her grandchildren Amy Castillo (Alonso) of Lawrenceville, GA, Justin (Megan) Prosser of Madisonville, KY, Russell Perry of Portland, OR, and her great grands; Ethan Castillo, Olivia Castillo, and Cole Prosser. She was preceded in death by; an infant son Roger Dale Prosser, brothers and sisters, Pauline M. Lowder, Grace Hardy, Carol McCants, Harold McCants, Tommy McCants, Dorothy Floyd, and Betty Smith.

Jackie Steve Wilson,  71, husband of Elizabeth “Beth” Smith Wilson, passed away Friday, September 3, 2021, at MUSC Florence.

Mr. Wilson was born August 2, 1950, in the Spring Pond Community of Williamsburg County, a son of the late William Wesley “Son” Wilson and Mizzie Ann Michau Wilson. He was a graduate of Williamsburg High School  and the SC Criminal Justice Academy. Jackie retired from the SC Wildlife & Marine Resources Department  as a Buck Sergeant. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Jackie loved his children and grandchildren and was lovingly known as “Jack Jack” by grandchildren, family members, and many friends. Jackie was a member of Oak Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Surviving Mr. Wilson, in addition to his wife Beth, are: three sons, Jeff (Hailey) Wilson of Moncks Corner, SC, Jason Wilson of Kingstree, and Kirt Wilson of Andrews;  four grandchildren, Evelyn “Evie Jane” Wilson, Jackson “Jack” Wilson, Olivia “Livie” Wilson, and Gamble Wilson; three sisters, Marline W. (Ray) Crimminger, Erline W. Gorchyca, and Pearl W. (Eddie) Morris; mother-in-law, Cornelia Smith; daughter-in-law, Lanette Wilson; his fur baby “Rosie”; and many nieces and nephews.      Rachel Ward, caring wife, mother, sister, and friend left this world for her heavenly home on August 29, 2021, in Carlyle Senior Care, Kingstree. She was born to Ed and Fannie Johnston on May 4, 1939 in West Jefferson, NC. She was a graduate of Beaver Creek High School in West Jefferson and after graduating from high school, Rachel met and married her husband George and they had their son, Jeff. Rachel loved creating delicious meals for family and friends, enjoyed fishing, and especially loved singing gospel music.  Active in her church, she sang in the choir and taught the Joy Bible Class.  Before moving to Manning, she worked in the medical field as an EKG technician and also drove a school bus.

     She is survived by her husband George Ward of Manning, son Jeff Ward of Kingstree, sisters Ruby Watson (Kenneth) of Clemmons, NC, Sylvia Ketner of West Jefferson, NC, brother Dale Johnston (Gail) of Lewisville, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents Ed and Fannie Johnston, sister Bernice Beshears, brothers Wendel Johnston and Gwen Johnston. Jack David Phillips, 61, died, Monday, August 30, 2021, at his home in Kingstree.

Mr. Phillips was born March 7, 1960, in Florence, SC, a son of the late Jack and Mary Yarborough Phillips. He attended Williamsburg Academy and later worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator. Jack was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.

Surviving  Mr. Phillips are: his daughter, Kimberly Phillips of Andrews; son Jack W. Phillips, of Andrews; three brothers, George (Dale) Phillips and Jimmy (Pam) Phillips  brother Willie (Dorothy) Phillips; a sister Judith Yarborough (Larry) Creel; three step sisters, Emily Strong, Patricia (Harry) Martin, and Genevieve (Stanley) Gamble; step brother Willie (Dorothy) Phillips; former wife, Lisa Phillips, former mother-in-law, Joyce Blakeley, and former brother-in-law Tony Tisdale. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Phillips; adoptive parents Helen and W.T. Phillips. Annette Feagin Tisdale, 84, widow of Johnson Heyard Tisdale, died Monday, August 23, 2021, in Williamsburg Regional Hospital.

     Mrs. Tisdale was born August 13, 1937, in Lake City, SC, a daughter of the late Jessie and Mymie Matthews Feagin. She was a graduate of Lake City High School and Williamsburg Technical College’s  Cosmetology School. “Miss Annette” was employed by Belk Department Store for many years before she opened Annette’s Hair Salon and Dress Shop. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and listening to music. She was a member of Lane United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir for many years.

          Surviving Mrs. Tisdale are: her daughter, Pam (Tony) Williamson of Kingstree; a grandson, Anthony Williamson; a nephew she thought of as a brother, Billy Kalencik of Kingstree; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband Johnson, Annette was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.

     Laura Easler Small Howell, 87, widow of James A. Howell, died Wednesday, August 18, 2021, in MUSC in Charleston.

     Mrs. Howell was born April 25, 1934, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Henry Williams Easler and Emma Locklear. She was a graduate of Greeleyville High School and retired as head teller at CPM Credit Union in Charleston. Mrs. Howell was a member of Kingstree United Methodist Church where she was active in the Wallace Connor Sunday School Class and the Gary Hemingway Circle.

          Surviving Mrs. Howell are: her daughter Sherry Small (Rooster) Cannon of Charleston; her two sons, Robert F. Small, Jr. of Greeleyville and James A Howell, Jr. of Columbia; grandchildren, Chip (Megan) Cannon, Matthew E. (Laura) Cannon, Laura Nicole Small, and Zachary Small; great grandchildren, Rhame B. Cannon, III, Reynolds M. Cannon, and Sydney Pearl Cannon; special cousin-in-law Ivoree Cheney; faithful friends, Lola Chitwood, Chures Regan, and Paulette Baucom; daughters of the heart, Gloria Byrdic Harville and Sandy Byrdic Bradley; and several nieces and nephews and their spouses. Robert Lee “Bob” Huffman, 87, widower of Faye Boyd Huffman, died Friday, August 6, 2021, in Williamsburg Regional Hospital in Kingstree.

     Mr. Huffman was born September 13, 1933, in Stanley, VA, a son of the late Ray G. Huffman and Lula Hausden Huffman. After high school there, he attended the University of Virginia and later joined the US Navy. Mr. Huffman was the plant manager at Warsaw Manufacturing in Kingstree for many years. He enjoyed fishing and flying model airplanes and attended Kingstree Second Baptist Church.

          Surviving Mr. Huffman are: his daughter, Sharon H. (Marion) McClary of Kingstree; grandchildren, Ian (Tracy) McClary and Allison (Tyler Brown) McClary. In addition to his parents, Mr. Huffman was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Clark and a sister.

     William Joel Miles Jr., 56, died Saturday July 31, 2021, at his residence. Mr. Miles was born November 28, 1964, in Kingstree, SC, a son of Jo Carol Edwards Miles and the late William Joel Miles Sr.  

     He graduated from Kingstree Senior High School and was a member of Kingstree Second Baptist.   Mr. Miles worked for Young Ceiling Systems in Myrtle Beach SC. He enjoyed fishing and loved his nieces and nephews with all of his heart.

     Surviving are his mother Jo Carol Miles, sister Janet Miles of Manning, sister Jennifer (Scott) Davis of Georgetown, nieces, Emily Dixon (Josh) of Cassatt, Sarah Farmer of Columbia, Sydney Davis of Georgetown, nephew Miles Farmer of Manning, and great nephew Grayson Dixon and great niece  Adalyn Dixon both of Cassatt. Mr. Miles was preceded in death by his father William Joel Miles Sr.

Davis McDowell McCrea, 96, husband of Ida Ann Morris McCrea, died Sunday August 1, 2021, at his residence, surrounded by his family.

Mr. McCrea was born January 22, 1925, in Kingstree, a son of the late James McDowell and Alice Vonciel Parnell McCrea. He was a Navy veteran of W.W.II, a farmer and merchant having worked at Williamsburg Regional Hospital and several food stores. He served his Lord and Savior his entire life and was a member, deacon, and Sunday school teacher at Piney Forest Baptist Church. Mr. McCrea enjoyed gardening and sharing his vegetables with his church family and other friends.

Surviving, in addition to his wife Ann, are: his daughter Alice Teretha Ann “Teri” Watford (Benjie) of Kingstree; 2 grandchildren, Crystalyn Michelle Watford (Scott) Honkonen and Ashley Nichole Watford; sister, Rounette (Bob) Rowan; brothers, Henry (Carol) McCrea, Rayford McCrea, and Sammie McCrea; and a special friend he thought of as a son, Craig (Robin) Stephenson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: a sister, Adelaide Sypolt; brothers, Sinnott McCrea, and Archie McCrea; brother-in-law, Bob Sypolt;  and sisters -in-law, Mary McCrea, Frances McCrea and Janet McCrea.

Thomas Virgel McDonald, 82, died Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at Carlyle Senior Care in Kingstree.

Mr. McDonald was born March 3, 1939, in Lake City, SC, a son of the late Junious M. McDonald and Gretchen Ila Floyd McDonald. He worked in home construction and renovations and attended Broad Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church. Thomas enjoyed fishing and was a big NASCAR fan.

Surviving Mr. McDonald are: his children, Tony McDonald of Hemingway, SC, Terry (Russell) Tucker of Lexington, SC, Tammy (Richard) Lee of Piedmont, SC, Tina (Timmy) Cox of Johnsonville, SC, Tommy (Karen) McDonald of Evansville, IN, and Amy McDonald of Plymouth, MA; thirteen grandchildren;  thirteen great grandchildren; four sisters, Libby (John L.) Floyd of Lake City, and Janice Snipes, Ila Cole and Judy Hall, all of Kingstree; and longtime friends, Eddie and Sherry Losacano.  In addition to his parents, Mr. McDonald was preceded in death by siblings, William McDonald, Ashton McDonald, J.W. McDonald, Yvonne Broach, Kester McDonald, and Marshall McDonald. The family would like to thank the staff at Amedisys Hospice and Lou Ellen Brown for their loving care of Thomas.
